"World War Z" director announced

Well he's done more than just that Bond film and in fact I think that's supposed to be quite a departure from his usual fair. Still, you can never tell what a talented director will make of a project just by his previous works. Just look at Joel Schumacher; before he made those god awful Batman films he made some pretty solid thrillers, like 'Falling Down'. On the other hand you have a cheap B-movie horror director like Peter Jackson who came out with the 'Lord of the Rings'. I'm a big fan of the book and I'm very curious to see how it's been adapted, so let's wait and see. ;)

Oh, and JMS has had this to say:-
J. Michael Straczynski said:
Another announcement to make, as per Daily Variety, which just went
online with this about an hour ago...there's a director now attached
to World War Z: Marc Forster, whose most current project is the new
James Bond movie.

I'm now finishing up the revisions per Marc's director's notes, and
with any luck, we can get this thing moving forward after the first of
the year. Given the scale of the story, Marc's a perfect choice.

Oh, true, and most of his output is slow paced - I'm just surprised because usually Hollywood judges you by your most recent flick...

I am still not sure how they can make this book into a movie. I'm also surprised to see Foster attached to it mostly because in a recent interview, he said something along the lines that he wanted to do a smaller picture after the super-busy, blockbuster QoS (assuming this will be his next film).

He bit off more than he could chew with Quantum of Solace somewhat, but there could've been somebody much worse chosen to direct this.

Simply put, this should NOT be a movie. It would work much better as either an HBO series or a miniseries. It takes place over 10 years and goes all over the world (and even into LEO). A movie will, out of necessity, cut out the vast majority of the story until its just your typical zombie movie.

Not exactly, since the central character would be the interviewer and I don't know of any other zombie movie that has this kind of narrative structure since you're not exactly following the same group of disposable characters around. Plus there's probablt going to be little in terms of cheep thrills or "who's gonna get it next" tension since you're most likely going to know exactly who survived based on who's being interviewed.
As for it's suitibility for a movie based format; while I agree that a mini-series would seam to be the optimum format, it would hardly be the first film to cover a wide sweep of unconnected characters. In fact it sounds more like an indie film the more I think of it. When I do go to see this, I shan't be expecting a "28 days later" or "Resident Evil" style zombie apocalypse movie. I'll be expecting something closer to "Crash", "All the President's Men", "Syrianna" or "The Quiet American".

Man, I just saw Quantum yesterday and those action scenes were a mess. They were nothing but 2-5 second quick cuts that flashed by so quickly you couldn't tell what the hell was going on or to who. It was worse than the Bourne sequels. During one car chase I thought the bad guys got their car door ripped off, only to learn a little later it was Bond's!

I too can not see this being made into a movie unless it takes a documentary tone. The interviewer, the interviewee, and 'flashbacks' of the persons experiences.

But I really think this shoudl be a series on HBO or even Sci-fi.

Oh..wait..did I say Sci-Fi...sorry.
