World Curling Championships

How is there no thread about this yet?! You'd think people would hurry, hurry hard, HARD HARD whoa whoa OFF... to create it.

So the 2008 Women's World Curling Championships are going on and Canada lost against those treacherous Danes. That makes their record 8-2 BUT they still have a chance to finish in the top two in the round robin before going into the playoffs. Their last game is RIGHT NOW against Sweden.

Oh, and somehow China is in first place.

Fun fact: if curling doesn't work out for her, Jennifer Jones can always fall back on her day job: being a lawyer.

I have to admit I haven't seen much of the tournement, but Canada seems to have been playing pretty inconsistently, to me, despite their record. Hopefully they can turn things around after the round-robin.

I couldn't get into curling because it looked really confusing. The only good thing about it was the sisters and if you just listen to it, it's some hot stuff.

^ Honestly, it's no more confusing than any other sport. The Canadian Curling Association has an excellent intro to the game done in Flash here, if you're interested.

Just flipped on the game for a bit... that attempted tap-back at the end of the 5th was painful to watch. :(

Tough loss... but kudos to the Chinese team for playing an excellent game. That shot in the ninth to reduce the Canadian steal to one was particularly impressive, as was the double-peel, double-takeout in the tenth.

Agreed, I watched it and was sure Canada had tied it up but the hammer was shot perfectly. Now Canada faces... Japan?!! How are these countries doing so well?

Yeah, I was amazed they slipped it past that rock in the top 12. Ridiculously good shot.

And I don't know about the Japanese, but the commentators were talking about how the Chinese team had been training in Canada and such. One of their coaches was Canadian, I believe as well... only 500 curlers in China, compared to nearly a million in Canada. It's really impressive how well they've done.

Yay! In a tight game, Canada won against Japan. Now they're going to the finals tomorrow (10:30AM PST, 1:30PM EST) and facing China once more.

Now please, don't everyone post at once.

^ Yeah, it's a good thing the 1000 post limit is gone now, or else we might have to start a new thread soon.

I'm definitely going to try and watch the game tomorrow... should be a good one!

What channel is curling on?

I always enjoyed it during the Olympics, but never, ever see it otherwise.

I care and I didn't know. It's just impossible to find coverage of the sport where I live. Congratulations Canada!

I really enjoy watching the Women's curling events...
the Men's, not so much.
(btw, wouldn't Cassie would look fantastic in a Star Fleet uniform?!?)
