Worf Nearly Got Himself Killed in WoW

And?

Do you post a thread about every minor thought that crosses your mind?

For the record, no he didn't. He placed the dagger in Martoks hand not from the handle, but from the center, making it impossible for Martok to attack with it without changing his grip. Being a trained Klingon Warrior, if Martok had made such a move, Worf would have had enough time to kick it from his hand or another maneuver.

Exactly but what I was getting at was that Martok was a friggin Founder (debatable) at the time.

Despite many seasons of showing Klingon culture, we don't everything of Klingon ways.

It could be that when Worf beat up Drex, he did so "honourably" (and with no permanent dishonour to Drex), so Martok simply wanted his son's property back. As Martok said, it was just a ploy to get his attention, so Worf could confront him and ask him why the fleet was at DS9.

If Worf knew that Martok might have been a Founder, don't think he'd bust up in Martok's grill

But if Martok had used his founder powers to kill Worf, he would have blown his cover, thus causing everything to fall apart.

Sounds wonderful! I just bought some Ds9 on DVD and The Way of the Warrior was on one of the episodes I bought. Looking real forward to it now! Thanks!

Doesn't sound like he did so "honourably"/""with no permanent dishonour to Drex"...
Way of the Warrior said:
MARTOK: I have come for my son's d'k tahg. Give it to me or I will take it from you.
WORF: Now that you are here, I have no further need of it.
MARTOK: You robbed my son of his honour just to get my attention?
WORF: You can't take away what someone does not have.
MARTOK: Are you saying my son is without honour?
WORF: I am saying your son is a coward and a liar.
MARTOK: And what of his father?
WORF: That remains to be seen.
One wonders what the real Martok thought of this once he got back and met Drex again...

Could "Martok" have calculated far enough ahead to realize that slaying Worf there would be the right thing to do?

I think he could. Creating discord between Klingons and Feds would automatically be good in every case, and "Martok" might realize that the real Martok here would be entitled to create it by Klingon rules. Or better still, in defiance of Klingon rules, so that Klingons would start to lose faith in their great General, too.

It's odd, then, that "Martok" maintains his cool. The greater plan of plunging the Empire to a war with the Cardassians is already on the move and not dependent on minor details like this. "Martok" himself could afford to get "killed" in the fight, too. But perhaps he's just too cautious by nature, or too worried about his personal safety, or too unsure that a fight with all its blood-spattering action would look convincing (even though he has clearly mastered the blood-spilling trick already).

I have always wondered this myself, especially since Worf and Martok pretty much become BFFs. Drex had to be pissed about that.

And ultimately, the reason cMartok did not kill Worf is because Michael Dorn had just signed his contract with DS9. He wasn't going to get offed in his first episode.

This also explains why the Jem'Hadar are such bad shots when firing at members of Sisko's senior staff although they are genetically-bred warriors that receive combat training from birth.

;)
