Worf in Insurrection

What was Worf doing on the Enterprise in Insurrection? They didn't even bother explaining it:
"Mr. Worf, what the hell are you doing here?"
"Well, I was in the-"
And Riker starts talking through him. They should've done something like that for the ending too:
Ruafo is deploying the ring demolisher thing, then, just in the nick of time, a Borg Cube drops out of warp and blows the thing up. Picard hails the queen and asks "What the hell are you doing here?" Queen answers: "Well, we were in the-" and then the end credits appear.

Actually the did just that pretty much (well the stuff I bolded in your quote) where there was a line saying that he was in the sector and decided to say hi (or some such) and to be honest I don't think they needed to say much else to be honest.

As for the second point, um, yeah. ok, what ever!

I liked that they never bothered explaining it. Any explaination would've been absurd so it's best to treat it as a joke rather than making up some nonsense.

That's an agreeable explanation. Not every onscreen event has to have some logical story reason.

Exactly right, both of you. The movie got people back together and set off on its admittedly low-key adventure. This was my favorite of the TNG films, despite Worf's singing and Data's boobs (surely the floatation devices). A more realistic Trek franchise would show crew churning, with personnel regularly coming aboard and leaving to pursue their careers. Either that, or the hero ship would truly be at the edge of the final frontier for the duration, and as soon as it ended, nearly all would scatter.

But we fans like to think of the crew as a family that finds comfort and belonging with each other, so they stick together as they grow old and continue to do things as they had when they were twenty years younger. So even though the writers occasionally push the characters on to new and better things, they're forced to waste time re-uniting the old crew so we too are back to doing things we did when we were twenty years younger.

I know a deleted scene stated that Worf dropped out of politics, but there's no rationale for it in the movie at all. Nor is there a good reason why Wesley is there in Starfleet uniform, and why the heck isn't O'Brien there?

Wow thats a great question. Would have been really cool to have O'brien there. I wonder if they tried to get him in the movie or not?

It's been awhile since I saw the episode, so I'm not sure, but did anyone ever tell O'Brien that it was Thomas Riker who impersonated Will Riker in "Defiant"? Maybe he didn't know and didn't show up at the wedding because he thought Will was still mad at him?

I'm sure the Thomas Riker bit came up and back to OBrien at some point.

And I too liked that INS never bothered to explain why Worf was there.

I think he should've just been there at Tactical. Have the new tactical guy come up and say, "Hey, who are you?"

"I'm the Chief of Security."
"... Didn't you leave?"
"No. I've always been here."
"But..."
"No "buts." I've always been here."
"I'm sure..."

That never bothered me in the movie. In fact, I liked it better that they just glossed over it and continued with the story. There was no need for a long, time-wasting explanation as to why he's there and how long he'll be in the neighbourhood. It's a TNG movie so we want him there. Unlike Nemesis in which nobody even questioned why he was suddenly there in a Starfleet uniform, Insurrection handled it perfectly with Picard asking but the commotion of the reception simply overshadowing his answer. It made me laugh because Worf was clearly trying to explain so that's good enough for me!

They did the perfect thing given what they were working with. A long explanation would have been crap. Atleast they didn't destroy all the great character development that DS9 had done with Worf like they did needlessly in NEM. Worf steps down from Klingon Ambasador to the Federation to be a security cheif again? What? There was no need to do that in NEM. They could have had him bringing a personal message from Shinzon to Picard as a way to bring Work into it. Once we got past FC it was misfire after misfire. What the heck happened? I blame Rick.

Umm, since when was Worf a "Security Chief" in ST:NEM?

He didn't wear yellow. He didn't get addressed as Chief of Security. He was aboard because he was going to attend the wedding of William and Deanna Troi - probably in the role of mere passenger and bystander.

He tagged along Picard and Data on a planetside foray, but Picard made it clear that this was a pure pleasure trip for him, and probably for Worf as well. And he fired the ship's guns, but only when the push came to a shove.

For all we know, Worf was still Ambassador throughout the movie. Or then he had never been one.
