Woolies cutting Xbox 360 prices?

I've just read this on Engadget. It looks like Woolworths may be cutting the prices of the 360 range, just like the did with the Wii not too long ago.

We received the image above from a supposed Woolworth's employee who scanned an upcoming retail catalog for our sicko pleasures. We can't verify the claim, but we understand that Woolies is in the midst of an escalating, retail price war in the UK gaming space. As such, what we're likely looking at are promotional cuts from the normal, £160, £200, £260 prices for the Arcade, Premium, and Xbox 360 Elite consoles, respectively. Then again, the across the board price cuts in the US seem to have really paid off so who knows.

Be advised with woolies especially with the 360, they were and are one of the worst shops for returning faulty goods, and that goes double the 360, no matter if its under the 12 months warranty they wont touch it with a barge pole, citing that you must deal with MS yourself and get it repaired....so be careful with them, they are very very unhelpful with returns like this.

I had this issue when trying to return my brothers 4 month old dead 360(not 3 RROD but just dead), they would not touch it no matter how many time i cited the sale act to them, i did get them to change it but it took a two week wait, two letters and numerous phone calls to my local trading standards office to do it, the trading standards person was really brilliant but she said i was not alone in my issues with Woolworth's and their returns policies.

So beware, i personally now would not even enter their shop to get out of the rain.

Hmm. And I thought Game were bad, my brother bought an xbox, the hard drive was shafted, they replaced it, and the replacement RRoD'd 6 hours later. When he took it in they took it out back, broke the warranty sticker, and said he'd been messing with it. I refuse to go there now, but I guess I'll be avoiding woolies too.

Actually, the price of the 360 has dropped everywhere (at least in Canada, and I imagine America too). The Premium bundle is now at $299 CND, and the Elite is at $399 CDN.

^Don't be surprised if Circuit City doesn't let you use it to buy a 360 though. In the small print on the coupon it says "Qualifying purchases exclude gaming consoles...."

Holy shit. Now that's "customer service".

"You want to return this?"
*SMASH*
"But you already broke it!"

Nope, the price hasn't been dropped in the UK, apparently the fact that we're paying almost double what everyone but Australia is paying means we don't get a price drop.

Yep, thankfully MS repaired it for free anyway after he explained the situation. But I refuse to shop at that place any more, but they are the biggest and they own the second biggest video game chain stores in the country.

Whoa! So that's your story about Gamestop that's been circulating on the web?

You know, Gamestop, EB Games, etc. aren't THAT BAD. You can get a used game there for $55 instead of buying a new one for $60!

I overheard a clerk at one of those places deliberately lie to a customer and tell them they needed to preorder because it's a game that would be impossible to find at other places once it comes out. The game was Mario Party for the Wii.

The problem is that they have a pre-order quota thing they need to hit, so they have to push that stuff. The EBs in Canada that I've been in haven't really been that douchey though... although their trade in values are laughably low.

No, not Gamestop, GAME, it's a UK store. GAME and Gamestation are the two biggest video game stores in the country, Gamestation used to be mostly about trade-ins and imports, till GAME bought them out. EB doesn't exist here any more.

Nasty buggers, Game was a OK shop for PC games when it was electronic boutique but since it became Game its just been a shit place that tries to push those silly loyalty cards in your face, and their trade in prices are just silly.........glad you got it sorted though.

I occasionally do the odd trade in at gamestation which is a much better shop, but 99% of my electronic gaming purchases are now done over the net.
