wishlist for special features for next Blu-ray re-release

With Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection & Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection released in May 2009 and a number of the discs video quality were in HD thought subpar except the fully restored STII:TWOK we can expect Paramount to re-release on Blu-ray the Original Motion Picture Collection around 2015-2016 with new telecine transfers (possibly in 4k).

I'd like a writer/producer commentary for ST: Insurrection
As far as behind-the-scenes videos that haven't been included on any Trek Paramount products:
Star Trek - 'Beyond First Contact' from HBO

E!'s Star Trek Generations Preview Special, aired 11/17/1994

any other UPN, HBO, or E! specials

Considering Paramount would have to license each one. Now that the movie series have had 2 DVD releases and a Blu-ray release maybe they can mine the old vaults and license these old videos with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
Every Entertainment Tonight video promoing any of the Trek films (ET is owned by Viacom which also owns Paramount).
ST:First Contact did had ET footage on the DVD collector's edition.

I would think that with the next Trek film being released next year we'd be getting updated movie sets even sooner than 2015/2016. I think that mid to late 2013 is more likely.

As for what I would want to see......well, to be honest I'm not a big fan of the TNG films. I love the show, but the movies are subpar. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing an extended version of Nemesis, since a lot of really good footage was cut from the final film.

Looking at the TOS films, I would like for the Director's Cut of TMP to finally come to blu ray along with the extended cut of TUC.

This is what I'd like to see too. If ever a movie needed an extended cut this is the one and since this is the last word on the TNG era I'd especially like to see more of those "goodbye" scenes between the characters.

The worst cut has to be the one between Data and Picard right after the wedding. This was a crucial part of the film. To leave it out in favor of more action was ridiculous. Cut down the dune buggy scene.

Hmm. looking at release dates for DVD& Blu-ray

STII:TWOK
VHS Release Date: November 17, 1998

STII:TWOK
DVD Release Date: July 11, 2000

STII:TWOK (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition)
DVD Release Date: August 6, 2002

STII:TWOK on Blu-ray as part of Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray set May 2009

and for something else to compare to:
STIII: TSFS
VHS Release Date: August 25, 1993

STIII: TSFS
DVD Release Date: April 11, 2000

STIII: TSFS (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition)
DVD Release Date: October 22, 2002

STIII: TSFS on Blu-ray as part of Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray set May 2009

You may be right based on the release dates of the other editions. 2013 is next year and may ride the coattails of Star Trek XII marketing (for older Trek fans).

Director's and SLV cuts of TMP
Director's cut of TWOK
Both extended cuts of TUC

'Added footage markers' to show exact placement of new footage.

Deleted scenes from TWOK, TSFS, TVH, TUC with commentary.

Isolated scores from all movies

Any additional TV ads or trailers for the movies.

New commentaries by Takei, Koenig and Nichols and selected guest actors Collins, Lloyd, Hicks, Luckinbill, Dorn, Warner, etc.
(perhaps scene specific rather than the entire runing time)

If there were any way to shorten the dune buggy scene I would be all for it. That's quite possibly the dumbest scene in all of Star Trek.

And I liked the scene between Picard and Data a lot too. I also really enjoyed the ending with Picard's new first officer, and it would be nice to see it reintegrated into the film. There were a handful of other deleted scenes that should be put back in the film too.

A few years ago, I actually compiled my dream wish list for Trek Blu-Ray extras. The movie section was 11 pages long (!) so I'll simply list some highlights instead:

FOR ALL TITLES:
-Interactive Cinefex and American Cinematographer articles
-Interactive Starfleet Database feature similar to what the existing Blu-Rays have but, you know, cooler :)
-Trivia track with behind-the-scenes factoids (the DVD text commentaries are not on the Blu-Rays)

Is there a reason you quoted my post without responding to it?

Fantastic list, ScottDS !

Note: the 'Special Longer version of TMP is from the 1983 ABCTV showing of the movie and TUC has 3 versions-- theatrical, longer home video version and the version with minor tweaks released in 2002.

They did go to the salt mine in Pa. to get all the reels for transferring TNG to HD--so they can surely dig out the deleted scenes and outtakes for the movies. (As was done to a lesser extent for Wise's Director's cut and the extras section of TUC.)

Ah, I knew it was from ABC but I guess I had the year wrong. Thanks!

As for Star Trek VI, I figured we'll leave the Home Video version however Nick Meyer wants it. But yeah, all three versions would be nice.
