I wanted to do a battleship for the Ferengi, that would be situated in TNG after the Borg attack in their sector (In the books). As such, I am trying to respect the look and colour tones, but with a bit more aggressive look. I don't have much time for 3D these days. I changed the central part a bit, because it wasn't alien enough for me. Second I wanted a reflective/glossy texture that would shows the greed and vanity of the ferengi.
Work on the main texture quite a bit. Also put guns on the side, but I am not really sure about it...that's why there is no texture on it yet.
The Ferengi fleet really hasn't been given much fan service. In fact, the only non-canon vessel class that I can think of is the Vagabond class from the Flash Trek: Broken Mirror fame. It is really great the you are giving them some attention, and so far, the exotic look that you've given her is quite appropriate, and it surely looks alien. Since she is a battleship, I think that when you're done with her, she should be armed to the teeth. The turrets that you've given her could be her primary/anti-capital weapons, perhaps some sort of torpedo rail cannons or accelerated energy cannons. Her secondary and tertiary weapons could be a plethora of disruptor turrets and/or phaser emitters, and maybe a few torp launchers for good measure. I'm excited to see how she'll turn out!
I elected to put 3 canons like the 2 on the Defiant, in front of the ship. It's kind of fun to think Rom and his son would have "brought" some federation technology into Ferenginar.
Maybe it's my eyes, but I almost detect a wood grain texture to it up close. There was this obscure Weird Worlds comic book IRON WOLF that has a ship clad in anti-gravity wood and brass http://comics.gearlive.com/comix411/article/q308-forgotten-comics-iron-wolf-by-howard-chaykin/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironwolf_(comics) So help me, but your textures point in that direction. Organic.
Gotta admit, At first I had my doubts about this thing, but I think it's coming together quite nicely. --Alex
The Ferengi got in to steampunk in the 21st century and never looked back. Love the overall design of the latest update. The hard edges and flat, streamlined design makes for a familiar (but much more menacing) Ferengi warship.
For the texture it's a plain metal+rust, mix with a brown metal texture. I took the bmp with the metal+rust. Since there isn't much panelling in ferengi ships (To date), I decided to do them slighty brown/red and by hand. At first I tried for paneling with BMP, but it wasn't really good or ferengi. So I decided for a much simpler approach.
Update. Change most of the texture, so it include a pattern and a specular color. Did the engines. And done a bit of the decelerating flaps on the side. I had a lot of troubles with the engines, so I did something simple.
Ok. I did some changes upon feedback. Tweek much of the textures and done some hoses, work on the top section. Next is to finish the under parts. Probably gonna take 1-2 weeks before I work on it again.
