(WIP) DS9 Promenade

And so with the christmas season comes some free time and a chance to make a start on a new modelling project: recreating the promenade of DS9.

Big thanks to @Redgeneral and the crew over in the set blueprint exchange thread - the archive has been invaluable in working out the details for all the intricate little parts of this set.

So far I've blocked in most of the canon set and detailed the upper walkway and outer row of shops seen in the show - then hoping to move on to quarks bar and detailing out the other two thirds of the promenade ring using some concept art as inspiration

YES! I’ve been wanting someone to recreate DS9 sets for ages. And this looks like you’re off to a great start! Looking forward to where you’re taking it.

Man, this set just feels like home to me. Now I want to buy a Jumja stick and stare out those windows, waiting for the Celestial Temple to open up. :luvlove:

SWEET!!! This should be great. It's a pity hardly anyone ever touches DS9, except for the Defiant. Going to follow this with great interest.

Thanks guys!

Images in the first post seem to have dropped off so here's another go:

Quick update:

Fleshing out the 'unseen' side of the promenade based on the pieces seen in the lower decks episode 'Hear all, Trust Nothing'.

Despite some of the floor plans out there (I think the DS9TM is the original) that show the full length of the promenade divided into a 'North' and 'South' half mirroring the set seen on the show, its pretty clear that the original design is actually only a third of the full arc. Assuming the part seen in lower decks is a third as well - that still leaves me with a third to play with - so experimenting based on some of the original (Roger Delgardo?) concept art featuring exposed turbolift/monorail tracks and other cool stuff that would have been too expensive for the 90s to fill in the final part of the arc:

And a teaser of what's to come - anyone fancy a drink?

Ooh, I love that you’re incorporating the unseen parts as well and the fact that you’re taking cues from Lower Decks and the original concept drawings. That illustrator would have been Ricardo F. Delgado, by the way. And you’re probably referring to these sketches, correct? I always found them to be fascinating, both as alternate/what-if designs for the station, and as art pieces in their own right. Delgado truly made the station interiors look alien and I love his art style.

EDIT: Shoutout also to Jim Martin, whose concept art I find equally engrossing. He has an eye for the more clean, precise and technical, and I could stare at his concept art for ages. I would gladly hang enlarged art prints of their sketches on my wall.
