WIP - Centaur A

Like I said, after completing the version Centaur B, I wanted to do the version A. Centaur NCC-1407-A Magellan Class. I am using the same saucer, gonna make some modification to it later. The A has a standard nacelle engine.

Sweet design. Looks to be size about the same as Voyager, no?

Is this ship built for saucer sep, or is it permanently one piece?

If those are windows on it, they're going to be skylights because of the shape of the saucer. You might rethink those.

No saucer separation. The windows are not on a side of a room, but up in an angle...at least for the saucer and some place on the hull. Think of it as a entry of light instead of an observation point...or a mirror in your bedroom, kind of...LOL

However all the crew's quarter have an holographic wall where they can generate a landscape of their choices. Not your typical holo projector tho, it's a low level power projector who project an image with a 3D effect. I don't really know why it's not in Star Trek...it's kind of logic that this technology should be available. I mean it's almost already here in a sens.

In case of the down saucer section, you would have a transparent floor window. Which probably would create fights among the crew, who gets the top window

Hmmm, floor windows, eh? Hmmmmm....

Why are you sold on putting windows in where there clearly wouldn't be any? Think of the saucer on the original Enterprise, it wasn't coated with windows and is no worse for it. Put any windows in sensible positions, and then use the space on the saucer creatively; panels, cargo doors, sensors, phaser strips, etc. There's more than enough detail you can put in if you want it.

Ok. I will though about it. Maybe I could change some things effectively...But part of the truth is that I really struggle with texturing. I don't know if it's my fault (Lack of imagination and patience) or because I miss one or two plugins in C4D to function properly. Not sure...

Modelled the engine. Place the basic surface texture. I decided to place the impulse engine on the engine in the back (Darker red). Two busars collectors, one in front a small at the top of the engine.

I added a new darker texture. A grey blue texture with pipes and panel. What do you think ?

So, the impulse engines are built-into the warp nacelles?

Yes. But still independent of them in terms of propulsion. I didn't want to touch the saucer, there is little place for them anyway. And putting them on the wings was ugly and odd.

I dont mind weird, as long as it's done correctly. Weird often gives you new ideas.

Right now this looks to me like a fairly low-poly model with a lot of tiled textures on it. I much prefer to see the details actually created on a model rather than painted on. It takes a lot more work, but makes for a much better looking end product.

With the Centaur as it stands right now, I'm not thrilled by it. I like the overall design idea, but the actual execution needs work. The saucer couldn't be any busier if you'd painted it tartan (plaid?), with about 4 different types of window alone. The body is also a little too organic for me, I'd tighten up the mesh to give more clearly defined edges and make it look more engineered than extruded.
