Opinions on the ultrabook form factor, especially versus tablets, anyone?
I've been jonesing for a replacement for a three year-old Android tablet and have been looking at Windows tablets as the leading alternative - Android is great and all, but I'd like to be confident that a device would not be painfully slow and un-updated after less than two years, which is what happened with my current tablet and Kathleen's previous Galaxy Note phone. So I've been looking at Windows tablets as a neat alternative, especially with a very promising Windows 10 on the horizon (Caveat - I'm not an Apple fan at all. Sorry.). Some of you have sworn by your Surface Pro 3s, and I can see the appeal.
But there's the ultrabook form factor, which keeps things thin and light and portable, AND can keep up with media consumption and creation, which is what I want to do with a new device. I've also been wanting a way to have a portable device that will let me be productive, and keyboard / trackpad seems the best way to do that - I've been let down often enough when wanting to do word processing on a tablet. I like carrying it around, but don't like having to retreat to my desktop when I want to write something more substantial than tweets or URLs or the shorter of Facebook updates. I'd never write this post on my tablet, for example.
The downside of the ultrabook form is ARGUABLY that you can't carry it around the house looking at stuff... But Kathleen seems perfectly happy doing that with a 15.6" laptop. I'd actually been looking at convertible laptops as such, which rotate all the way around so you can carry it as a tablet. Anyone have something like that? Or an ultrabook in general? Thoughts, fellow nerds?
