That's what service packs and updates are for, right?
They'll never get all bugs out of any OS or app.
Now, we can hope everyone else gets with the program as far as drivers and support. I tried a laptop stick to go with Win7 on my laptop. It worked for a couple days then stopped. T-Mobile tech support was, as always, worthless, but their main excuse was they didn't support Win7 (or even know about it). I figure it was a problem with the device, but since they were so clueless, I just returned it altogether, it was only a luxury anyway.
I hope they start getting with it as far as x64 goes, since I have XP & Win7 going in 64 bit on desktop and laptop.

From what I've seen the x86 is becoming an endangered species.
That does pose a problem, a lot of software is still only 32 bit, with no suitable 64 bit replacements or alternatives available.
Good point. Though, theoretically, they will run slower, which can be a problem for very demanding applications.
Agreed. I created a SS installation for my XPx64. Saves a lot of time. I did try the vLite with Win7, it installed, but not unattended. Was worth a try though.
I realize Norton (Symantec) has something called Enterprise for virus protection for x64, but no utilities that I'm aware of. The System Works I had prior to going to x64 wouldn't install at all. Went with TuneUp and Nod32 (for x64) instead. They both work with Win7 too.
This being Windows, I expect most programs will probably be disk-bound due to swapping anyway. (Even if you have plenty of RAM.)
Depends on how you setup your swap file. While the kernel isn't meant to work without a swap file, if you have enough ram there is no problem having no swap file on disk (and, as such, have a minimal swap file in memory). Works fine here; no swapping, ever. I do have to be careful with Photoshop though, it tends to be greedy. And greedy programs get killed very quickly and without remorse.

Microsoft never let anyone else legally host the distribution of the their software (which is why it always comes from Microsoft and not even Akami).
Any RC's out there will be on peer to peer as Microsoft indicated at the time the RC went up that there was an end date.
And to the point above where some had a problem with their wireless stick, if there's a driver for Vista then it's supposed to work with Windows 7.
Microsoft stated very early on if there was Vista driver for a device then you were okay, if not then you're got a problem.
Well I've been using x64 OS for about 4 months now (from Vista Home Premium to Win 7 RTM ... also in x64) and I can assure you that most x86 applications are working fine ... plus I personally have not encountered a problem with speed in those applications (apart from Java responsiveness ... but that's just 1 issue and I rarely use that function so it's not really a problem).
I was also able to run numerous 16bit applications without issues.
I think it's high time we moved away from the old and just focus on the future.
But I also think it would be good to have a native support for antiquated software just in case.
Backward compatibility should be there either way in my opinion.
