So I have the original disc for Star Trek Starship Creator, Warp 2, and a while ago tried running it. The audio was terrible (some issue with quicktime and windows, since QT is *long* deprecated)... BUT I just tried it out again (this time using the ISO from archive.org) and the first time the sound was terrible... but then I went into Quicktime and changed a bunch of settings, trying to make them higher... and it worked! The audio is fine! Here's what I did, in the Quicktime 4 settings (QT 4 installed from the setup file on Warp 2 disc). I have no idea which one of these did it because I did them all at once, but I don't care because the game works now! Connection Speed: Intranet/LAN File Type Associations: I removed all, since I don't want anything other than Warp 2 opening in quicktime 4 Music: Changed the default synthesizer to General MIDI Sound Out: Changed the rate up to 48 kHZ, kept size at 16 bit, using 'DirectSound: Windows' preferred device'. Also, after clicking the 'options' button, I doubled the 'Fifo size in millisecs' to 120, with the default option not checked. Streaming Transport: Changed it to HTTP, with default port of 80 Hopefully that helps those of you who love playing the game as much as I do! (Well, I liked the cool part, the MSD-style windows where you added all the pieces to the ship, but I'm sure the actual missions are great for someone .)
I think at least some of the music is from a royalty free compilation-type thing. I heard at least one of the distinctive trumpet lines in another game or piece of media, and recall looking it up and discovering that. But this was years ago, so I'm no longer sure it's accurate. Edit: Or I may be conflating it in my memory with another non-Star Trek game that used music from a royalty-free collection.
What operating system are you using, and I will merge this thread into that one... its been ages since we had one of these!
We have some sticky threads with the name of the OS and different people post their solutions to help others. I’ll change the title of this thread.
I'm not sure the title change is appropriate, since my post is related only to Starship Creator. It may work for other Quicktime-based games, but I have no idea. And since no other games are mentioned or merged here (yet), I don't think making it a generic "windows 11" thread is a good idea, unless there actually are other Windows 11 threads that are going to be merged here..
Who has bulletproof instructions for running Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates under Win11? I've tried three different (but similar) strategies from online websites with no luck.
I used this version: https://hotandspicyforums.com/starfleet-command-2-orion-pirates-v2-564-august-20-t25292.html The "EAW campaigns for OP" mod also adds all the Empire at War stuff. You'll need an official product key for it to work.
