I just posted this at my news thread since it pertains to future movie developments.

Shatner sat down and had lunch with JJ Abrams recently, from Jimmy Kimmel Live via TrekMovie.com.
Shatner: Star Trek Movie “Wonderful” + Talks Star Trek

Sequel December 10, 2009 by Anthony Pascale
Last night Bill Shatner was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promoting his show Raw Nerve, but things swung around to discussion of Star Trek. Bill said he thought the Star Trek movie was "wonderful", implying he finally saw it, and revealed he and JJ Abrams recently had lunch. However, he said he didn’t know if he would be in the sequel. See video below.

Shatner talks Trek sequel on Kimmel
Last night Bill Shatner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live (video below). Bill talked about flying, Jimmy’s appearance on Raw Nerve, and his wax figure at Madame Tussauds, and then ended talking about the Star Trek sequel. Jimmy asked Bill about reading that he and JJ Abrams were going to meet to talk about the Star Trek sequel. Bill said they did meet for lunch, here is the exchange
Kimmel: What is going on with Star Trek?

Shatner: I don’t know, will you call JJ for me?

Kimmel: I will call him

Shatner: Please, call him and ask him, in a slightly plaintive note, what are you doing?

Kimmel: Just say I am the captain and it is time for the captain to take charge.

Shatner: I said that, but this maître d’ came over and said "I am the captain."

Kimmel: You didn’t really give me an answer

Shatner: I literally don’t know. Star Trek is a wonderful show. They did a wonderful movie. JJ I think of as a buddy, he is a great director. I am sure when the right time comes, he will make the right decision.

I am glad he finally saw it, I wonder if he watched it with Leonard?

Based on that, I'm not sure it can be said Shatner has seen the movie.

He could just be saying he made a "wonderful" movie based on the good reviews it got, its box office take, etc, by many measures besides his actually seeing it.

He didn't say "I saw it," and what he said doesn't necessarily mean that. (based on what's in the OP)

Finally Shatner has seen Star Trek I wonder what he thought of the young man called Chris Pine playing James T Kirk a role that originated from Shatner and the other members of the cast.

One of the commenters after the link at trekmovie said Bill saw the movie ages ago. I tend to agree.

I wonder that myself. We all know that Nimoy thinks Quntio was great as playing his charcter Spock. But I wonder what Shatner thought of Pine playing his charcter of Kirk? I'm wondering if he aproves of Pine taking over his charcter of Kirk? And if he has any good advice for him, just like Nimoy did for Quntio.

Since Pine was trying to seperate his Kirk from Shatner's I doubt he wanted any advice from Shatner on how to play him.

But I would still like to see what Shatner thought of Pine.

Yeah, I can understand that. I think there's nothing wrong with Pine's version of Kirk. I thought he did amazing job as Kirk. I'm just curious as to know what Shatner thought of Pine's version of Kirk in the movie.

Say what you will about Shatner's skills and abilities, but he is ALWAYS a hoot on TV talk shows.

I seem to recall an early interview somewhere with Pine where he talked about writing a letter to Shatner when he was cast in the role and that Shatner at some point afterwards said that he wishes the young man well.

Imo, it's a pretty smart move on part of the Shat NOT to say whether he liked it or not. Either way would alienate some part of his fan base.

He said "They did a wonderful movie"

That sounds as if he liked it, assuming the truth was coming out of his mouth.

I don't recall reading anything here which definitively proved he did see it. Some Jo-blow saying Shatner saw it isn't proof. What Shatner "said" may have been based on it's performance alone.

I really don't think Shatner would have evaluated the film unless he had actually seen it for himself because that would be stupid otherwise.
