Will you live to see the First Man on Mars?

Ethros

Question- Do you think you will live to see the first man on Mars?

I'm 24, and when I was a kid I used to think it was almost a certainity. Nowadays, not so much

I'm no expert but space exploration seems to be going nowhere. And with the cost involved of sending a manned team to Mars (rather than robots/probes) I'm getting the feeling I may die and old man and still not have seen one of mans greatest achievments-to-be :(

What do you think?

51 here and I think I'm going to be lucky to see a man on the moon again. Forget Mars.

I am 50.

Probably not - but even if I do I don't think it is going to have the same impact on me as seeing the first men on the moon did.

China lands first Human on Mars.

"We expect to refine our our process and actually have survivors next trip" the Chinese Minister Of Spaceflight was quoted as saying.

Seriously. It won't be an AMERICAN on Mars. "First American On Mars" will come long long after China gets there.

Doubtful. I'd buy that a non-American will make it first, but not from China.

I'm 41.

I have no doubt that I will live to see an American on Mars.

All it takes is one American president getting behind it and we would be on Mars just 8 years after the go ahead.

I'm 19, and I sincerely doubt it. Ill be happy if I see another man on the moon.

Statistically I have at least 50 years left. If expensive international conflicts are kept to a minimum, I can imagine a mars landing in my lifetime.

I think in our lifetime we could still formulate an audacious Mars Shot to land a human on Mars and return her safely to Earth. It would be a logistical, financial, bureaucratic, and technological nightmare to organise, but it is doable.

I wouldn't hold my breath, though, in reality. Heck, I'd be just as happy to see us land on the Moon again. :)

Not quite. We don't have the technology to get there. We still have to invent everything and test the ever living hell out of it. It's going to take a lot longer than 8 years.

That being said...I think we'll get there mid-century. I should still be around then.

I'd be happy with the Moon again personally. I don't think we'll get to Mars in my lifetime. Besides isn't the world going to end in 2012 anyway? ;c)

screw Mars. Personally, I'm shooting to make it to my hundredth birthday, which is a mere 8 days before First Contact.

What?

I've been a Star Trek geek since I was 6. :borg:

Man, wouldn't just suck if you died when you were 100 years and 7 days old?
