Will there ever be another novel like A Choice of Catastrophes?

I like how that novel fleshed out or at least included a lot of minor characters that were briefly seen or mentioned in TOS. There was Bobby Abrams, Brent, DeSalle, John Farrell, Galloway, Giotto, Jana Haines, Harper, Karl Jaeger, Kelowitz, Tina Lawton and many others.

Will there ever be another TOS novel focusing on lower decks characters as much as this one? The only upcoming TOS novel on the release schedule is a crossover with Vanguard, which means it probably won't have a lot of page time for minor characters.

I have no insider knowledge of the Star Trek books line, but I'm glad you enjoyed what we were trying to do in A Choice of Catastrophes.

My guess is that it's not impossible, particularly in the name of avoiding stepping on the toes of anything that might be established about TOS characters who are going to appear in the course of SNW (right now, that's Spock, Uhura, Chapel, M'Benga, as well as now getting Sam Kirk and knowing that James Kirk is appearing next season). Y'know, say, focus on the Sulu-Chekov buddy aspect with some additional random crew, since they're unlikely to appear at least in the near future of SNW. Hey, maybe this will finally give us an epic Yeoman Rand tale - considering that she was only around for a handful of season one episodes during the five year mission era, where it's been said the TOS novels make the most, she's been woefully underused, here's her chance to take center stage, right? Keep the spotlight more centered on characters who aren't directly impacted by the ongoing developments of SNW, it at least helps to minimize the possible tripping over details and such.

But, in all honesty, we really don't know - with all the production issues caused by the pandemic, pushing back timely tie-ins to the shows in production (Both the upcoming Picard and SNW novels are going to be out well after the season finales of their respective shows), and with no apparent sign of the production squeeze lessening in the near future, it may be that next year is equally slim on novel selections, meaning we only get four or so books, in which case, I would assume that the priority would be on tie-ins to the in-production shows, Discovery, Picard, and SNW (plus whatever succeeds Picard in the development cycle, like the Georgiou spinoff).

Wasn't the Janus Gate trilogy, or maybe Errand of Vengeance supposed to be a TOS Lower Decks perspective on things? But something changed and the book and blurbs do not match.

Sort of, yeah. I think the idea was to have a continuing cast of junior officers that could have developing story arcs through the series, since you couldn't have the main characters change or grow in any real way in stories set during TOS.
