Will Shatner be in Trek XI?

STIntergalactic

I was wondering if anyone thought it was possible that we'll finally get to see Shatner in some future release of Trek XI. Maybe on the DVD? Maybe in a directors cut?

I mean, that's what we all want, right?

No. Typically, a director's cut does NOT involve shooting scenes that were never filmed prior to theatrical release. And no scenes were filmed with Shatner.

And no. It most certainly is NOT what "we all want".

They could shoot some new scenes if they wanted.
But they won't.

Director's cuts (or extended cuts--the latter is more common than the former) are reworkings of already existing material. It is extraordinarily rare for a film to go back and shoot material after a theatrical run is complete for inclusion on a "director's cut". And there is NO credible reason to suggest this time will be one of those rare exceptions. In the first place, Abrams has stated many times that the theatrical cut IS "the director's cut". He has NO interest in a different version as a unit. I'll bet there a lot of "deleted scene" extras on the DVD/Blu-ray, but I will also bet their is no "alternate cut" of the film. With a known attitude like that from Abrams, it borders on the absurd to think he would go to the trouble of filming a scene that he decided was not worth filming, let alone include in the theatrical cut of the film.

Really--accept it now. It is NOT going to happen.

But it could happen, right?
Sure. I could also win the lottery grand prize (in fact, the odds are better for that). Of course, a Stanley Cup parade in Madagascar is more likely than what you're hoping for here--so "could happen" isn't much to hang your hat on.

Why are you trying to dash my dreams?
Better to face reality now than undergo a more bitter disappointment later. And since you presumed in your first post to speak for "all", I feel it necessary to burst that particular little fantasy as it is one I find most irritating.

I think it's funny that Shatner used to joke about Doohan being one of the whales in ST:IV and now Shatner is a whale himself.

If he has any hopes of appearing in the next movie, he should at least try to lose some weight and look respectable. Sorry, but a fat Captain Kirk just won't cut it.

But don't you see? I'll never be disappointed. If they don't create and insert a Shatner scene for the DVD, then I can always hold out hope for the 10 year special edition DVD rerelease...then the 20, and so on.

Shatner in Trek XI is a dream that will never die.

Ever.

Maybe when the canon violation fad passes, I need to break this avatar back out...

Well, you go on "living the dream", then. The rest of us will muddle along in reality.
