Zachary Quinto really has some class. Its starting to seem like they made the right choice in casting him as Spock. He clearly resepects the material and the fans. Hell he even has enough respect for us crazy rabid fans to respond and dispell the rumours...

Zach made a blog post to clarify what he meant. So from the horses mouth so to speak:

i have been inundated with questions and confusion about a comment i made during an interview with wired - about the new atari star trek online game - in which i said i am stepping away from trek for the next two years. obviously i will be a part of any upcoming films... reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making any public appearances related to the franchise - or doing anymore auxiliary projects pertaining to the trek universe. i will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film - which will be released in june of 2012... two years from now. hence the no trek for two years remark. worry not trekkers. it was a misunderstanding of context. i am not spock. but i am spock. all at the same time.

See, fuss about nothing, he's just stepping back from conventions and stuff to concentrate on doing something different which is what he needs to do for his career.

Yeah I read that.I guess we all jump to conculsions before thinking this over. I'm releaved to know that he will be back for the sequel. I shouldve remmber what he said at the convetion last year. I heard a fan ask him if he would be in the next film, and his answer was yes, that he would be. So I shouldve known already that he would be because he did say he would in front of lots of people at the convetion last year. So I guess yesterdays news was just a little misunderstanding. Sorry Zach for jumping to conclusions. We look forward to see you back as Spock in the sequel and other Star Trek films if there is any after the next one. I wish you luck in everything you do, and thank your great no matter what. We all love you and be sure to suport you in whatever you do. Until next time,live long and prosper!

Of course he'll be back to Trek but I'm amazed he hasn't bailed on Heroes before now. He must feel a lot of loyalty to his colleagues on that show because there's no way someone has smart as he is can't tell how utterly wretched the writing is.

He may be contractually obligated for a certain number of episodes/seasons. If so, he would be unable to leave for now.

The whole cast and crew seem to be keeping a cautious distance from fandom. I don't know if they're worried about typecasting, or homicidal, anti-reboot fanboys charging at them with their plastic batleths.

Yes, they ARE contracted for XII, and maybe XIII as well - I'm not absolutely sure about XIII. they have to stick with it.
