Will Picard be targeted?

JirinPanthosa

Looking at what Picard represents in the universe. He is proof of what Dr Ira Graves tried to do decades ago, he transferred his essence into a synthetic body which is only not immortal by choice. If this information gets out, it will be incredibly high in demand. Synthetics could be targeted not out of fear, but out of greed and desire to become immortal.

Do you think the next season will move in this realistic direction, or do you think they'll gloss over it and re-establish the touchy feely idealism of the character?

If we had 20+ episode seasons, I could see it as a sub-plot or maybe a 2 parter.

With 10 and an assumed arc already in mind, unlikely.

Not a bad idea tho.

Graves? Roger Korby was working on it a century earlier.

probably not, but it could make for an interesting plot

It's not "if". It's "when this information gets out". Barring fears for the safety of the population of Coppelius, I see no reason why Picard would keep a lid on his new situation.

Also, remembering Elnor's upbringing and the lessons it taught him...and the rest of the people now surrounding Picard...

I'm imagining that any dealings Picard has with the Romulans in the future will become a lot worse than they already are. His very continued existence being a threat to everything they believe in. Not because he represents the Federation, but because he represents AI.

In that case I got the impression that Mombot was Soong's closest approximation of his ex wife, not an actual continuity of consciousness from her.

Nothing in the dialogue confirms that. "Synaptic scanning" is the term used, which would be precisely what Agnes and Soong Jr did to Picard.

One of the things they told Picard his android body would be one of a man who'd live out a normal lifespan for some one his age would have in the 24 century.

He would only be under threat by those with strong anti-synth sentiments. Meaning Romulans and various anti-synth groups.

But since synths play an important part in life – as indicated when the Rikers sought treatment for Thad and could not because of the ban – anti-synth groups would likely be in small numbers. Especially once the truth about the Attack on Mars gets out.

I think realistically it would be a big deal if it came out. I am sure 24th century medicine extends life another 20-40 years, but I think a lot of people have a strong inclination to stick around longer than that. But I agree that with a shorter season, it probably will only be touched upon. I also heard a rumour that Patrick Stewart didn't love the idea of Picard getting a new body so there's that.

Sir Patrick simply said he didn't know about the plot twist at the end of the season and when he got to what happens in the script he was like "wait what, am I fired? Did I do something wrong?". But then he turned the page and saw how it was resolved and it was fine. The usual Youtube suspects who spread those "rumors" simply used the shock and surprise he described as a basis for their supposed "Stewart hated the plot twist" rumor (they really love to twist the facts to make them fit into their parallel universe where Kurtzman gets sacked every other week). It's entirely baseless - especially since Sir Patrick has since stated that he liked the new body idea because it's the opposite of what the Borg did to Jean-Luc, he sees it as something GOOD using artificial life instead of what the Borg do. So no, he didn't hate it. He was just surprised.

Yeah, if Stewart hated it it would not have happened. And I like that take on being the opposite of the Borg. It goes back to an idea that ran through Trek of technology bettering people's lives. This tech of transferring to an android body has been around since TOS. It is nice to see a positive application rather than becoming evil.
