Will Majel Barrett-Rodddenberry do the computer voice?

That is something I would like to see. I kind of missed the voice not being their on "Enterprise."

She is accually doing some voice work for New Voyages, I am rather doubtfull you will hear it in Trek XI.

I doubt it...

I don't think the movie guys want too much of a connection to Star Trek.

Computers didn't talk during The Cage or Where No Man so if it's set before thesecond pilot it shouldn't talk at all.

My computer talks... it's unreasonable to assume that computers in the future would not talk when appropriate.

But I have a series of voices I can have my computer talk with. Personally, I doubt I'd EVER take Majel Barrett's voice as my preferred computer voice.

Evidently, Pike used Number One's voice for his preferred computer voice... which gives us ALL SORTS of warped scenarios to imagine, doesn't it? (I mean, he WAS clearly attracted to her, re: the Talos thing... so he gives his ship's computer her voice? What OTHER computer-operated gizmos might he have had in his quarters??? "Command is a LONELY life..." ;) )

Why? I just don't buy this "it works this way now, so logically it will work like this in the future" argument. Just because we have computers that talk now doesn't mean that will be the preference of people in the future. Maybe people's tastes changed and they no longer wanted their computers to talk. Maybe Starfleet of the time decided that the computer providing information verbally was not the most efficient method. Maybe there's one of a million other reasons we can't think of why that would change.

In short, if they elect to depict computers during Kirk's early days to be silent, no problem here.

Well, we could go the other direction and hire Douglas Rain to do the voice of the computer.

Then we'd have this problem with the computer calling everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, Dave.

I think the computers should talk when spoken to. I mean, it is feasible to do in our own time, a couple hundred years from now I can't not see it happening. But it shouldn't be as intelligent as it is on TNG. It should be able to respond to simple questions, that's all, we don't really need anymore than that, it would take away from the characters and isn't really the point of the movie.

That would be kind of cool for MBR to do the voice of the computer. But to be honest, talking computers or no, as long as it's a bloody good movie, I won't care either way.

it would actually be a nice nod to TNG, but I doubt it.

Not TNG in particular... Majel was the voice of the computer on TOS, too. In fact giving the computer her voice on TNG was a continuity homage to TOS. The non-canon explanation has always been that Pike's Number One first gave the computer a voice... her own.

If she does voice it, would she voice it in the mechanical fashion of TOS, or the more natural fashion of TNG+?
