Will Lack Of Consistency Really Impair Your Enjoyment?

I will actually enjoy it more, without the low budget 1960s sets, costumes, music, props, and models...

For its time TOS certainly wasn't "low budget". IIRC, it even was one of the most expensive shows on 60s television.

Compared to TV shows today, and the new Trek movie, they are low budget. Also I am sure the producers and Mr Roddenberry would have liked more money to achieve their vision at the time.

Of course the new Trek will seem awfully 'low budget' in about a decade or so.

Consistency be damned. I want a good movie that entertains me for 2 hours and for multiple viewings over the years more than I want something consistent and boring.

No, because Star Trek is in such a bad state right now that a good and successful movie is far more important than canon consistency, which to be honest only really matters to the hardcore.

If they're smart, they will stay consistant with TOS. It reminds me of the wright brothers trying to imitate the flight of a great bird. What is the big deal or problem with staying somewhat consistant by simply avoiding nonconsistancy. God knows there's plenty of room for that. As long as the wings don't flap. We all saw what happened to that plane attempt. There must be some reason TOS was so successful.

Explaining away inconsistencies within the Trek universe is kinda part of the fun, isn't it? Trying to make the whole thing make sense?

TOS contradicted itself all the time. One week it was UESPA, the next Starfleet. Vulcanians or Vulcans? Remus or Romii?

So far, it has been possible to reconcile most of the Trek universe together. (Some of ENT is tricky to retcon though). I doubt that Trek XI will break too many of the rules.

I'm expecting it to not be visually consistent with what we saw in TOS, because 60s visuals just won't cut it these days. But I don't think the movie will be any greater a re-imagining than say, TMP was from the original series, or TNG was from TOS.

Never was truth spoken with such clarity and simplicity. I agree 100%. :bolian:

I won't freak out that Spock isn't an emotionally red skinned Martian, James Kirk's middle inital isn't R., and Uhura is wearing pants.

Star Trek is about the characters.

Hmmm.... have we seen you before, perhaps with a different name? This seems awfully familiar...

Yes. It's both that simple and that complex.

Depends on how inconsistent it is.

Besides they are aware that canon is going to be a gigantic deal and will take that into consideration.

And even with staying within canon, there's lots of flexibility with what can be written, particularly if it's a time travel plot.
