Will Cars 2 be PIXAR'S first flop? Will you see the movie?

Will you see Cars 2?

I agree. Sometimes I think they try to shield their children from everything so they won't have to make the effort to teach them about it.

*sigh*

If you can't play nice, don't play.

Or do we really need a mod to explain to you that you shouldn't be attacking people's parenting skills in moderated forums?

Different people have different ideas on what's appropriate, and what is good for every kid is not the same. It's up to the parent to choose.

That's not a warnable offense, especially when he's not attacking anyone here and just making a generalized statement.

I would assume they thought the first movie that WASN'T this violent was research enough?

Most movies don't have such drastic tonal shifts, especially with the toys and marketing demographic aimed at the young'ns.
It's also rated G. You don't usually get much death and torture in G rated movies.

Watch Bambi and The Lion King. Get back to us.

Took my four-year old along with my wife to see this today. Did have a momentary pause when I read the reviews about how "dark" this film was, but left the theater laughing. Not at the movie itself but at the people calling this "dark", it's not even in the same ballpark as Toy Story 3.

At the end of the day my four-year old was engaged from beginning to end. Which is all I can ask for.

I do find it funny that a poster above complained that they changed up the formula for this one. The same people would've complained if they hadn't changed up the formula and called Pixar lazy for just rehashing the same film over. I thought it was pretty bold for Pixar to move as far away from the first one as they did.

Well, context is everything - however it appears they were talking about that prior to me dropping my 2 cents in and that context indicates it was a general statement, not directed at a particular poster, so I retract the statement.

Still, I think choosing to not have your kids see violence is an odd form of criticism. And of course context in the media is important as well - Bambi of course was all about the concept of coming to age and facing loss. It was more striking seeing a major change in tone in the Cars movies from the first to the second, and the violence seemed far more out of place because of it. Clearly there was no torture scenes in the first movie.

But I concur with Bill, it wasn't as 'dark' as Toy Story 3, which was extremely dark. But the violence seemed more out of place (to me anyway).

I am perfectly free to criticize hypothetical people. Parents are obviously free to do whatever they want, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them.

I'm not saying we should actively show our kids violence, but I also think it's wrong to shield them from every little thing. Kids are becoming bigger and bigger idiots with each passing year. Shielding them from the world is not helping.

Exactly and it's not a warnable offense if you don't agree with someone.

It's a movie about talking cars... talking... cars...

Anyways how many more years before you think they make Cars 3? I'm thinking 2015, maybe 2016.

So why is it ok if it's talking Toys, Fish, or Monsters but not ok if it's Talking cars?
Why is what okay?

Why does the quality of movie go down because it's Talking cars, and what difference does it make since Pixar has done movies about Talking fish, Monsters, Bugs, Toys, and people have loved it.
We weren't even talking about the quality of the movie. We were talking about how a G-rated animated movie about talking cars should be safe for kids.

Well, for whatever it's worth, my 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son saw Cars 2 today with the sitter and reviewed it thusly: Waaaaay better than Cars 1, Mom!

And I say, again, for the umpteenth time that Cars 2 is okay for kids even with this "violence" in it. A kids/family movie doesn't have to be crystal-clean and all sunshine and puppies it can have dark elements! Does no one remember the classic Disney movies Of the past?

Does anyone remember what Cruella de Ville wanted to do with the 101 dalmatians?

What happened to Bambi's mother?

What happened to Simba's father?

Snow White being persecuted, and poisoned?

Ariel and her beau getting into a tough rumble with Ursula?

The climax of The Fox and the Hound?

I mean is any of that really that much better than the "violence" against the red shirt cars in this movie?

Have people become this uptight over the years? I mean sheesh aren't pretty much all of our classic fairy tales we tell kids filled with violence, murder and death?

What happens to 2 out of the 3 Little Pigs?

What happens to the Big Bad Wolf in the 3 Little Pigs?

What happens to Hansel and Grettle?

What happens to Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother?

What happens to the baby in "Rock-a-bye-Baby"?

Are we growing so up-tight as a society that we think our kids are going to be damaged by seeing some cartoon cars getting blown up and "killed"? Do you know how kids play with their toys?!

Christ!

I never said it wasn't. I'm arguing generalities.

Shit, my favorite Disney movie growing up was "Sleeping Beauty," where the villain threatens to murder a baby, turns into a giant dragon and attacks Prince Philip with (and this is a direct quote) "all the powers of Hell," and then gets stabbed in the chest with a sword.

Calm down.

A few people up-thread, and in real life, have grumbled about the movie's "content" being scary for children.

I know they did, but you replied to me, and I have already said that I think parents need to calm down about what their children can and can't see.

Eh, it was a more general reply to the sentiment than it was directly at you, sorry for any confusion.
