Will Australians become extinct next week?

Key word is 'cult', I'm afraid. Cult does not equal big numbers.
Isn't Trek a cult? Hey Miss Chicken I think I should say what the authors are for the two books I recommended. There is such confusion in the titles and some books with the same Titles. "Down to a sunless sea" by David Graham, and "the last ship" by William Brinkley. I sometime find good deals on books at half.com. Sometimes 75 cents for the book or dvd and 3.00 shipping, but still not bad and no driving to the store.

Trek is a bit more than a cult, especially after the new movie (sorry, haters!).

'The Quiet Earth', while well known among SF literati type circles, well, they're some pretty small circles.

I have definitely got to find my copy of it now!

How long ago did you read "The Quiet Earth" and what is your opinion of the novel?

TBH, I read it in the 70s, so I can't remember it clearly at all, which is why I need to dig it out. It's just one of those novels that's tagged along with me on my journeys, when I've lost so many others. I saw the movie in the early 90s, and thought it pretty good.
