Why The Hell Isn't Dr. M'Benga In This Movie?

Just thinking, it's well known at this point that there will be several scenes taking place on Vulcan. And we know from A Private Little War that Dr. M'Benga studied on Vulcan. So come on! Can't this tale of a young TOS gang feature Medical Intern M'Benga as well? They wouldn't have to give him a large role, just have him hanging out with Spock, Sarek and the family, maybe help fight against Nero and his funky drill. Not including M'Benga in the Vulcan scenes seems like a major oversight on the part of Abrams and the Cohorts. This would be like having an Enterprise incapable of warp drive.

What the hell is up with all the neglected important characters, anyway? Gary Mitchell, Robert April, Dr. M'Benga, the list could go on. Did they really feel such characters as a drunk uncle and a hoverbike riding cop were more necessary than these pillars of the Trekverse? And furthermore, though there has been much discussion about April and Mitchell, this is the first time anyone has mentioned M'Benga. Come one, people, Spock owes his life to M'Benga! This guy is as important to the Trekverse as Mr Leslie, who I noticed also isn't in the movie. Fandom should be in an uproar over this.

I myself am ashamed to have spent so much time whining about a zero when such a greater crime was evident. So what say the rest of you? Do you agree that M'Benga should be in this movie, or are you already taken in by a flashy trailer which admittedly doesn't look half bad, despite there being no M'Benga?

So I've been wondering, much has been established about Dr. M'Benga canonically speaking. We do know that the human race is long-lived, and therefore he has been alive in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to TOS. Have a scene where Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club in search of Nero. While they're looking around, they pass by Dr. M'Benga. You know what would make this scene even better? Have Dr. M'Benga slap Spock. The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.

    Discuss.

Because the script and/or story didn't call for him. End of story, end of thread topic.

Screw M'Benga! I wanna know why Crewman Green isn't in this movie! After all, this movie takes place before his untimely death at the hands of the Salt Creature (oh, snap, that's a spoiler!).

Mr. Leslie dies early on in this film, but he will be back to duty in the sequel.

How about we bring back Bailey while we're at it. And to complete his character, we'll introduce Balok. But wait, why stop there? Since there are Klingons in this movie, lets bring back Kang. Why isn't Harry Mudd in this movie? Maybe Mudd went back in time, hiding onboard the Narada, secretly carrying the plans to Data's positronic net. And it just wouldn't be a movie if they didn't stumble across The Botany Bay again.

Yea thats it! Lets spend $150 millon RE-INVENTING Star Trek, while retaining all the old characters, stories, designs, etc. That should work out just great! Yea, we'll make another fan film, ignore the general public's taste, and lose money once again. And we'll let Berman write another epic cliche fest. Great plan!

Dr M'Benga didn't sign on until after McCoy found out how little he, himself, knew of Vulcan physiology in "Amok Time" and "Journey to Babel".

They should make a real Valentine for the fans.

Recast or preferably clone every single character that has ever appeared in Trek, give them a single line to say and make a 3 hour movie where they come in front of the camera, say their piece and go away.
Throw in some token shots of the 60's Enterprise and you're done.

It's the only way to be sure.

I liked Mr. Bailey. He acted a lot like I think I would act if faced with that situation -- scared shitless!

But, please, no Balok. He frightens me. And I'm not talking about puppet Balok either -- I mean Clint Howard Balok. Little bald-headed Clint Howard with that weird mouth and dubbed incongruous voice gave me the creeps. I had nightmares for a while after first seeing "Corbomite"

    ...."This is Tranya" [shudders]

Did you ever see Clint's appearance as Balok at the Shatner roast?
