Why no New Frontier in the Typhon Pact?

The Typhon Pact books seem to be running as the backbone of the post Destiny TrekLit continuity. So far the books have featured characters from TNG, DS9 and Titan. The only other 24th Century series that have not been featured thus far have been Voyager and New Frontier. It makes sense that Voyager would not have much of a role given that its currently back in the Delta Quadrant...however why hasn't New Frontier been a part of the narrative?

As far as I know NF is left to Peter David, and last I heard Blind Man's Bluff was his last contracted book. At this point, other than the occasional reference, NF takes place in it's own little corner of the Novelverse, and TBH I'd rather it stay that way. If we were going to expand the TP series to include different casts, I'd rather we got SCE or Klingon Empire.

Nothing against Peter David, but New Frontier has gone off the rails.

I loved the first 13 or so, but I don't really even remember the last few very well.

I'm all for seeing those characters pop up in new stories ala "Typhon Pact"-type... but It might be time for some new blood in the NF universe IF they decide to continue the series.

MacCalhoun & Soleta are favorites of course. (I still wonder why Soleta never gets mentioned in most of the Romulan Stuff we see. Is she still kicking around the the time of Gell Khameor?)

Thinking about it more, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the characters pop up in some guest roles.

I would love to see Calhoun & company show up. IIRC, Sector 211-G is near the Romulans border so there could be a story or two there.

With the (likely) end of the NF series, or the possibility of a new author getting involved, it's certainly time to bring the NF into the mainstream of the novels.

Same thing for the other little seen, semi-retired (SCE) or lesser used treklit offshoots.

If New Frontier is over, I'd maybe like some cameos along the lines of Admiral Shelby's in Q&A or the offhand mentions during Destiny, but I'd keep away from telling all-new NF stories with another author. Peter David was the "voice" of New Frontier. It's not a multi-author series like Titan or DS9.

Honestly, I'm a little weirded out lately by PAD obviously not paying any attention to the ongoing storylines, but other authors trying to mention his stuff anyway. I feel like it should be reciprocal.

Granted, I don't know much about how this works, but if I were editor, I think I'd either say "NF is in its own continuity; no one else worry about it, and PAD do whatever you want" or "PAD, read Destiny & Typhon Pact and pitch stories that fit into the ongoing narrative".

I'm sure that's exactly how it always worked (with some exceptions like Gateways), only that some authors feel the need to include NF anyway.

This. This right here. KRAD, come back and write a Typhon Pact/Klingon Empire/IKS Gorkon book!

I really felt a nation from NF should have been included in the Typhon Pact. I felt that the Redeamers would have made a nice fit instead of the religious group currently involved. It could be really interesting to have the new Thalonian empire join since its head is a former UFP citizen and Starfleet officer.

However, since Nechayev appeared in Raise the Dawn, it seems likely that NF doesn't fit in the mix anymore.

As NF is the only novel series that I read, I'd much prefer them to be left on their own.

Although I've got a fair amount of NF stuff, I feel you are missing the 'good stuff'.

Not missing anything. As bad as it sounds, I "outgrew" TrekLit years ago. NF has always been my favorite TrekLit series, which is the only reason I still keep up with it. I've completely lost interest in anything else.

The story developed in Treason and Blind Man's Bluff showed Nechayev was an operative for an alien race that was seeking to infiltrate and control other cultures. Whether she was replaced or was an alien her an entire life is unknown but I imagine she was replaced.

She's killed in Blind Man's Bluff when the truth about who/what she is becomes known.

I'm a little saddened by the fact the NF has gone from something I eagerly devoured to a stale concoction that I couldn't even finish the most recent instalment of.

To be honest I don't know that I am fond of the idea of any part of Trek "belonging" to just one author. Trek is a shared universe and that to me is part of its strength. I'd love to see other authors get a chance to play in the New Frontier sandbox.

Also on a not completely unrelated note, if memory serves there is a Thallonian serving in Starfleet in Raise the Dawn.

Which is kind of a shame really, since IMO NF has pretty consistently been the worst Trek Lit series for quite some time now. I don't mean to say that NF is bad, because the last few books have been pretty good, but the other series have just been much better overall.

Then I'm sure there's an exciting, action-packed adventure just waiting to be told one day about how the stalwart crew of the starship Excalibur found the real Nechayev and rescued her, bringing her back to the Federation just in time for her to deal with the Typhon Pact crisis in Plagues of Night/Raise the Dawn. There, contradiction solved! :bolian:
