Why is Yelchin revealing more than others?

I'm wondering if Yelchin is being allowed or even encouraged to talk about STXI. Since he is the youngest of the cast members he has the potential to bring in a younger audience, not to mention that he has a current hit movie that targets teens. Not a bad marketing ploy.

While I don't disagree with what you say per-se, I just don't see how he is "revealing more" than anyone else.

T'Cal does have a point that Yelchin seems to have said more than anyone lately -- in fact this past week I heard more from Yelchin about this film than I have from Pine in the months since he was cast. I'm sure it has someting to do with Yelchin's film opening last week. Good publicity for his role in Charlie Bartlett can only help Star Trek.

Here are three trekmovie.com articles this week (the second one has a video link to an MTV interview -- there are multiple videos so don't stop the vids too soon):

Yelchin: Chekov is no Kirk or Spock

More Yelchin

Even More Yelchin

Personally, I think Karl Urban has been the best spokesperson for this film among the cast members (even better than Quinto). Urban sounds like a fan who can't wait to see the film rather than an actor talking about his trade.

Yelchin does seem a bit more chatty but he is young and excited to be part of Trek and is a little less reserved than say Karl Urban, but the reason you see many comments from a given actor in a given period is to do with promotions for other events and not because they are more open.

For the last month Yelchin was promoting Charlie Bartlett and so he got asked Trek questions and you get articles about him. We have also heard a lot from Eric Bana recently because of Other Boleyn Girl. In January Urban was promoting Comanche Moon and you got a bunch of articles on him. Chris Pine showed up for one day at Sundance to promote Bottle Rocket and you got stuff out of him. Same happened with Bruce Greenwood for a film he was promoting last year and before that it was Quinto for Heroes and so on. Although he isnt in the movie, the the same was true when Shatner was out promoting his Trek book in October and he got asked about the movie.

This is how it works. Publicists push these celebs out there during the promotional periods to push their latest project, but inevitably interviewers ask about Trek. This pattern will continue to repeat itself over the next year as each star has another project to promote and will be put out to press by studio publicists. In fact you can plan ahead if you like by reading these two articles:

The other way you get celeb quotes is by catching them on red carpet for premieres and other things. This is how the latest Abrams interview came about from an Oscar party last week.

Bear in mind that Paramount will not actually be making anyone on the Star Trek movie officially available until say March 2009 (with the exception of Comic Con 2008). Until then it is a matter of finding them on your own wherever you can track them down.

Yeah, I think Yelchin is younger and more inclined to be impetuous when it comes to answering questions, than the more hardened acting veterans that make up the rest of the main cast.

We hear so much from Yelchine these days because Charlie Bartlett is just opening. I'm sure we'll be hearing more, too, from Eric Bana in the next couple weeks with The Other Boleyn Girl opening this weekend. It's not surprising, to be honest. As each actor has their movie opening, they have more of the spotlight on them, so they are heard from more than others.

Exactly correct. Nobody in the "mainstream press" is interviewing Saldana, because there's nothing "hot and new" she's got coming out right now. Same with Pine. Urban is getting a LITTLE interview time, but he's really not getting a lot of "love" right now. Most of the Quinto interview action has to do with Heroes, even though they always ask a Trek question these days too.

Shatner is getting asked more about this movie than anybody else... but that's because he's involved in the "tour."

Yelchin is being interviewed probably twice or three times a day right now. Of course he's getting asked questions, and of course it's coming up. But it's not like he's given away anything SIGNIFICANT (like telling us how Nero is actually the love-child of Spock and the Romulan Commander!) ;)

My theory is that he spent a little too much time talking to Walter Koenig about how to play the character. Walter is famous for giving away spoilers. (He's not as bad as Marina Sirtis, though.)

I really didn't know that! Alas, I didn't become a Star Trek fan until Voyager came along. What type of spoilers did he give away for the TOS movies?

And with the upcoming Harold and Kumar movie, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more from John Cho about his role as Sulu.
Absolutely. And if these guys are working on something else when Trek XI comes out, they'll talk about their upcoming projects then.

The main reason we haven't heard much from Pine lately is because he's still working on the film. I'm sure once his work is done and he's out promoting whatever other film(s) he has opening between now and May '09, we'll get plenty of tidbits about Trek.

We had Walter Koenig in Australia a few months before ST IV opened and he said, "Don't be surprised if, very soon, there's not an announcement about Star Trek returning to... weekly television." Which turned out to be TNG!

Wow, that must have been an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan! :)

Don't you mean, "weekly telewision"? ;)

Nope. He was only in character for the Chekov scream competition and the "Chekov vs Koenig Debate".

And a few audience asides in Saturday night's "Tribble Lotto" gameshow. I think it was when he pulled out the Supplementary Glommer.

And, yeah the 80s were a magical tme for ST fans.
