Why is there no Lost tonight?

I do find it curious as I thought the whole point of starting in February was to run straight through with no breaks, no reruns.

I haven't done the math but I'm guessing this break (plus one more coming up! :() puts the finale right in the May sweeps sweet spot.

It annoys me that there's no Lost to be had tonight but when I look back on the interminable mid-season breaks of yesteryear it seems like a cake walk in comparison so I can't get too upset about it.

Particularly since it isn't being pre-empted by some special program or holiday...

Yeah it's really stupid. I just checked to see if some special thing is on, it's last week's episode!!! What the hell ABC is thinknig? Dumbass network, dumbest network on TV.

When I rewatch the older seasons on DVD, I still remember exactly when the big breaks were. Michael sees Walt's IMs in "What Kate Did"...at least a month. "Kate, damn it, RUN!" in "I Do"...three months. Rousseu and Karl bite the dust in "Meet Kevin Johnson"...writer's strike. Now I can add this short-by-comparison but still way too long break to the list.

I wish they had stuck with 24 episodes... :(
If they had, we'd be watching the final season right now. Which, as crappy as that sounds, I'd rather be doing than seeing ABC stretch the show out for another year. The producers wanted two more seasons and 48 episodes, IIRC, but ABC decided to be tricky and gave them three more seasons of 16 apiece.

Just saw that for some reason tonight American Idol is coming at 9 PM (usually comes on at 8 PM), 9 PM is the same time LOST comes on. So maybe they decided to hold off this week cause they can't compete with AI in the same time slot?

I think it's the other way around. I heard it was the producers who wanted the remaining episodes spread across 3 seasons.

With a 17 episode season, we've technically hit the "mid-season" break. Eight hours of LOST has already aired, nine hours are left (including the two-hour season finale). I guess there's some unspoken rule that the have to take a break halfway through the season?

I'm glad, cuz it will get me that much closer to catching up with you guys so I can stop avoiding spoilers. :p

End of season 4. Go me! :p

No! The network is always the bad guy! :p

And American Idol will be on next week and the next week and the next week and the next and the next and the next...

There's going to be a clip show at the end of April too. Just deal with it. It's the 'biz.

But at least then there is a point to that, and it's still a new clip show, this week it's just a repeat of last week's episode!

Well it is just a theory. Tonight they had some big name celebs on, Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson.

Whether you like AI or not, you have to admit the fact that it draws a huge TV crowd away from other shows.

Maybe ABC is using this week to measure how much of a hit they might take, and decide to move Lost to 9pmm CST/ 10pm CST. (switch with Life on Mars? Since LoM is going, it might as well kamikaze with American Idol).

We'll see....

I was part of a hilarious Interregnum-like prank on the IMDb Lost board, in which several of us posted threads about Namaste as if the episode had indeed aired last night. It managed to confuse a few people. Unfortunately, the overzealous mods deleted almost all the threads within a few hours, so the evidence is largely gone.
