Why is "Operation Annihilate!" deleted scene missing from "Star Trek: Lost Scenes" book?

I recently bought the book "Star Trek: Lost Scenes." I'm surprised that the deleted scene from "Operation -- Annihilate!" is not included in the book.

Does anyone know why that deleted scene was omitted?

It features Captain Kirk talking with his nephew, Peter Kirk, at the end of the episode about where to live now that his parents are dead. Peter opts to stay on Deneva and be adopted by a colleague of his late father (the Captain's brother). After Peter leaves, Scotty mentions that Peter could eventually join Starfleet Academy. Kirk responds that he hopes he won't. He prefers to spare Peter from difficult command decisions like the one Kirk just faced about possibly destroying Deneva to eridicate I the parasitic creatures.

We had limited space and had to make some tough decisions. As an FYI, there are 100s of deleted and trimmed scenes scattered throughout the pilots and episodes of TOS.

Even though our upcoming book, Star Trek: Lost History, primarily focusses on documents, behind-the-scenes action, and historic objects, we do include a few new deleted scenes (and some other unseen filmed material) because they fit the theme of the book. And the scene from 'Operation -- Annihilate!' is still not included because we ran out of room. We wanted to show deleted scenes that people may not be familiar with.

I love the section about City on the Edge of Forever. I wish Star Trek had kept more of Kirk and Edith's stairway conversation and kiss in the episode.

Scenes usually get deleted because, when the episode is in post, someone or someones decide the scene doesn't work or isn't necessary, or opens a can of worms they don't want to deal with.

Mostly we don't know the reasons, except for the cases where there are projection room notes, a few examples of which survive in the Roddenberry papers at UCLA.

Sounds reasonable. I mean, if you left that one out because most everyone knows about it, in favor of an obscure (at least to me) cut like poor Lang getting zorched in "Arena," which I had been wondering about for decades, I like your style. And P.S., great book.
