Why is mature audiences animation such a maligned genre?

True, when it is however I think that most people see it as nothing more than an excuse for porn. There really is virtually no Western animated mature cartoon movies and at the outer edges of mature content for animated series we get stuff like Family Guy and South Park which are rather tame by the restrictions of television. South Park gets a lot of slack but it's still restricted by the channel's censors.

I remember a decade or so ago that HBO had the animated Spawn series. It was good if quirky animation. I think it's too bad that such series are so rare.

Trust me ''mainstream'' audiences DON'T embrace anime!

They really don't. I know no adults that like anime but know plenty of teens do. It doesn't help that anime is such an expensive hobby and the public has gotten used to the only anime being shown in the evenings being kiddie stuff like Pokemon and Yugioh.
