Why I think Season Six should be the final season of Supernatural

Yes, S5 could have been the end of the road for the show with Lucifer, the Apocalypse, and Sam's fall into the abyss. But there were some remaining loose ends left hanging at the end of the season that needed to be explore and resolve like the state of Heaven and Hell after the failed Apocalypse, the mystery of Sam's return, Sam's uncertain future now that he's out of the cage, etc. So far, S6 has been doing a good job cleaning that up.

Another reason S6 should be the last season is because it give Sam and Dean the opportunity to settle things between them once for all to fully move on with their lives. Dean loved being with Lisa and Ben but there were always Sam's fate and the missed allure of the hunting life that kept him from totally emerging in it. Now that Dean finds out that Sam is missing a soul, he has go back to being the upholder of the burden of Sam to save him. Dean needs to resolve things with Sam to embrace his present and Sam needs to get his crap together with his soul and what happens after the re-souling to create a better future for himself that doesn't end in miserable loneliness or self-sacrifice. S6 can provide the brothers time to do the things which S5 didn't have time to completely cover.

I think playing a role in the restoration of the brothers' bond and the climax of their individual journeys will be their mother or the ghost of their mother if she happens to be in Purtagory. By releasing their mother from Purtagory, Sam and Dean can finally make peace with their tragic past and take steps towards letting go. S6 should serve as the conclusion of the brothers' journey of healing. By continuing the show into S7, the writers may forced to create another large patch of trouble to once again bring drama into the brothers' relationship like they have been doing many times in the show's past.

On a related topic, I think it would be great and sweet if the final scene of the series is of Sam being invited to dinner with Dean, Lisa, and Ben, ending things on a hopeful note for the show.

I agree, Season 6 should probably be the end, but since the CW likely won't want two of its most noteworthy shows to end at the same time (with this season being Smallville's last), I think they might be forced to wring one more season out.
