Why does Santa Claus...

USS Triumphant

Vice Admiral
Admiral
...always end up in jail? Going back to at least "Miracle on 34th Street", through "The Santa Clause", up to this new Hallmark production "Santa Baby 2", and with all sorts of examples in between, it seems like movie and tv producers just love to throw the beloved Christmas icon in the slammer. What's up with that?

(Of course, I don't suppose it has anything to do with him being an illegal multinational border-crosser who flies an unregistered aircraft with no flight plan, after convincing parents all over the world to let their kids sit in his lap on the basis of gifts that he will provide later, and getting his army of elves to build illegal copies of patented and trademarked toys and other products, so that he can break into people's houses and leave them behind. And that's not even mentioning all the laws of physics that he's breaking. :D)

Well he does do the whole "breaking and entering" thing every christmas to deliver the presents...

because parents don't get ol' st nick and so they do with anyone they deem naughty and throw them in the slammer. this can usually be also tied into the everyone loves santa message too where we end up with a group of hardened convicts either asking santa for pressies or at the very least singing a selection of festive tunes by movies end.
