Why Does A Trash Compactor Have A Monster Anyway?

what about the couch. Who would throw out a perfectly good couch. I mean look at it.

I'm takin it. I know we are in a dangerous situation and all, but I'm takin it!

As a kid I had a demo CD of Dark Forces 2, and I HATED when the dianogas showed up... Icky, disgusting creatures.

Okay, so how come the Dianoga doesn't get crushed when the compactor operates?

How's this?
It does: the Dianoga was introduced to that vat as a microbial biological waste digester. Left unchecked it grows into a colony which acts like a massive creature (don't we all?), but this isn't a problem, as it gets squashed by the action of the compactor fairly regularly. The left over cells then start to regrow, and the dominant colony eventually becomes a new Dianoga creature (for a bit).
Very cod science, I know, but within Star Wars...
It's made of midichlorians. :p
