Why Do The Klingons Look Like Shredder From TMNT

I'm watching Star Trek Into Darkness right now, and I've got to ask, when the Klingons first emerge from their ship to talk to Uhura, why do their costumes look like Shredders costume from the 1980's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon? Or even the early-1990's live-action Turtle movies? Was Abrams trying to do an homage to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Because shoulder pads and shin guards are common forms of armor?

Looked that way to me.

Well Moore Klingons were obviously heavily inspired by Feudal Japan. Heck, Klingon writing looks a lot like Katakana.

But I'm obviously speaking more towards how the "honor" system and Worfisms are derivative of the (Western) ideal of Bushido.

... when the Klingons first emerge..., why do their costumes look like Shredders costume from the 1980's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon?
No idea what that looks like.

[EDIT: Yeah, I'm not seeing it, honestly. - M']

Or even the early-1990's live-action Turtle movies?
Nor that.

[EDIT: Still not seeing it. - M']

Was Abrams trying to do an homage to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
I've never seen anything which hints that he was.

You know, it would have helped immensely if you had posted some pics of this Shredder person, since I don't know crap about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and had no idea what you were talking about.

So I did the ten seconds of Google research you should have done, and found this:

So to answer your question...no, he wasn't.

Abrams is in unimaginative hack who was clearly ripping off Shredder's look for his Klingons. I am outraged beyond words. This has my blood boiling more than the zeroes in the Kelvin's registry.

Nah, just kidding, y'all. Nothing boils my blood more than leading zeroes.

Take a deep breath and count to 010.
