Why didn't Janeway get more Dogs?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
She left her pets on Earth with Mark for the course of a two week mission. Now if she is an animal lover, those sorts of people do seem to act incomplete if they don't have a furry pet in their life, so Neelix might have subbed as a proxy, but Porthos didn't interfere with Archer's adventures ni the slightest that...

I think it would have made her seem more human if we saw her playing with her dogs now on the holodeck or taking one of them for a walk on shore leave... She left three dogs with Mark I think? It's easier to get off heroin than going from 3 dogs to none. She must gave been tweeking most of season one.

Considering that Voyagers libraries would have had a complete genome repository of every Earthican genus and species that if it wasn't for the prime directive that they could seed the frak out of a planet until it was set up to become Earth II in a few million years, the Doctor could have made her any dog she cared to grow to love if they didn't accidentally fall across the path of a space dog she couldn't resist caring for.

What sort of Dog so you think Janeway should have gotten?

I guess that the reason that she didn't get a dog was that they were hard to find in the Delta Quadrant.

As for why she didn't get a holographic dog, well they are not the same as "the real thing" and I also guess that a holographic dog would have brought back too many memories of the real one back home and she didn't want that.

There are also rumors about an attempt from Neelix to cheer her up which misfired when he created a holographic rap-group for his Talaxian resort program who welcomed Janeway when she entered it by singing "Who let the dogs out, huh-huh-huh, huh-huh-huh!" which Janeway didn't appreciate and Tom's annoying habit to sing "You're nothing but a hound dog" in the mess hall.

That Paris boy, he just doesn't know when it's past point to end a joke.

Gonna be the death of him.

So she can emotionally connect with a hologram she is going to pork, but she can't emotionally connect with a hologram she is going to lead about a park till it's holobowels and holobladder are relieved?

What an odd choice of perspective and priority.

I think you guys need a hobby. Ooh, wait, I guess this is it! ;)

No more captains with dogs. Please.

Neelix? Maybe - although I can't say as I'd like to pet him. I mean, euw. But I'd say Harry fits the job description better than Chakotay.

Kim isn't even house trained. Meanwhile Chuckles you can take boar hunting.

It's like comparing Odie (from Garfield.) to Dogbert (From Dilbert.).

I must admit that the boar-hunting aspect had simply never occurred to me.

Dogbert? Boar hunting? Trying to wrap my mind around that...

We don't really have anybody evil enough for Catbert, do we, Praetor? Maybe Seska?

Forget the dogs, she never got another real love interest either. I'm not counting workforce or the holo-irishman. Perhaps she just wasn't ready to move on yet.

For the record, Janeway only had one dog in Caretaker, Molly, but she was pregnant.

Maybe it's just Mosaic clouding my memories, but didn't Janeway have a pet dog most of her life, not just Molly but several others?

It would have been nice if she'd picked up a little furry creature on some planet - remember the dog-creature that appeared in TOS' The Enemy Within? They could have done something like that with a creature on some world - Janeway enters a pet shop, sees this creature and takes it aboard.

Maybe she just didn't believe in taking an animal so far away from its natural habitat?

Ugh. If they'd really tried to give her another dog, it could have gone really badly.

I smell a daggit. Does that make Icheb into Boxey? :shifty:

She and Tom could have shared joint custody of their salamander children as pets. :rommie:

(Speaking of which, why weren't the lizard children devolved into normal humans?)
