Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboyworld?

They were losing people left right and centre, sure it may have been too late by the time a 1/4 of the crew got spaced in Azati Prime, but by Northstar he must have realized that 12 MACOs were not a sufficient bolster to his primary force that an additional 20 or thirty Human beings who could shoot straight and kick the s*(t out of an alien scumbag twice their size trying to destroy the ancestral home world would have been a resource worth exlpoiting if only as cannon fodder?

I would say this: Despite their exposure to seriously advanced alien technology, those yahoos, helped along by their ancestors, decided to live in the 19th century for an extra 200 years rather than see what is possible through education, experimentation, invention, etc.

I can't picture any of them handling the role they would be expected to play, and I didn't see anyone demonstrating the discipline it would require to obey Archer's orders just because he said so.

Oh, he'd have to pay them. Totally mercenaries.

But between some sort of ramjet buzzscoop or even the ships scanners tied into the transporters Archer could find enough gold and silver floating about in space to completely destabilize their economy...

So maybe instead "tons" of Tin or nickel or lead or iron, y'know the useful stuff so they can start building railways. :)

There can't be enough people on that planet not to already be suffering from a little inbreeding, and everyone would be dedicated to the continuation of their economy that there was bugger all room for invention or luxury but think about it... The aliens wouldn't have used fire arms when they slaved the Earthers. The humans were able to reinvent stuff they had seen back on earth...

I'm curious about what sort of technological leg up Archer gave them, along with the Historical database?

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

by the time of northstar they had only lost one person.
add in they may have been cramped for space already with the addition of the maccos plus the exptra supplies they may have been carrying. the enterprise was a small ship and a lot of the crew already bunked together.

and shooting with a phase pistol and no kickback i suspect would be different from shooting with a gun.

More over, why didn't we see an episode that had them arriving back on Earth or a mention about it? It makes it appear as Archer forgot about these people and the Illyrans (who he stole the warp coil from).

The answer: poor continuity within Ent.

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

while there were things i do wish enterprise had followed up on all the series suffered from the same thing.

Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboyworld?

Because they'd just shown "Brokeback Mountain" for Movie Night...

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

Because having too many western elements would result in quick cancellation, like Firefly.

Not sure thats a continuity issue. No real reason to do a follow up unless they can get a good story out of it.

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

How about common &^%ing decency?

The Illyrians were trapped 2 years form home at impulse... Which is only half a light year if we accept the usual full impulse = .25 C. Although it took Spock and Scotty 8 months to travel between planets to get to Native America Indian World inside the same damn solar system after the Captain went native.

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

Three years from home, according to the closed captioning, although there's really no way to tell how far that is since there's no canonical information about how fast full impulse is (there's even fair justification to argue it's faster than light) and even if we did know that (say) full impulse in the 24th century for Federation starships was some typical speed that wouldn't tell us anything about what it was for the Weekians of the 22nd century.

Though, really, they're only 'stranded' if there's no way for them to call for new parts to be delivered; otherwise, it's a couple weeks of frustrating wait and then the hassle of installing a new warp core. I would be mighty resentful of that being done to my ship, but it's not like they were being really doomed to endless wandering in deep space. It's more like having your car stolen when you're at work.

Re: Why didn't Archer take on reinforcements from Cowboywor

...Of course, the Illyrians were stalled within the Delphic Expanse, where few people move on legitimate business or non-desperate missions.

But then again, our heroes put an end to the Expanse. Surely thousands of prospectors, adventurers and entrepreneurs would be rushing in right after the third season. The Illyrians could even be choosy about the quality and price of the coil they would buy, then.

Let's say Starfleet really was interested in getting the cowboys back to Earth. They probably wouldn't ask the Vulcans. It wouldn't be a priority mission, so they wouldn't send the NX-01 or -02. And any other human ship launched would not have anything to report yet at the end of the fourth season...
