I was curious to this. Was there something more going on? He left for educational purposes (he was going to go to Harvard) but reading Wikipedia, he didn't want to return to film the series finale? Why?

There was a little bit of something about the fact that he made some movie (was it the Christmas one?) while he was supposed to be being away at school or whatever, and I remember Tim Allen making some comment about it at the time.
Well wikipedia said it was to focus on academics but I think it was deeper than that. I know they mentioned something on the "E True Hollywood story" episode but I forgot. I think he just wanted a change.
