It's been years since I've seen this episode, but I seem to recall that the point was exactly what Irvy is saying.
Yeah, remember Callie's reaction to jumping in the pilot mini. They downplayed the weirdness of jumping after that, but it's reasonable to assume that it's an experience that would jar somebody awake.
