Why aren't there real superheroes in the world?

This thread got me thinking, why don't we have any masked superheroes in the real world?

Obviously no special powers exist, but Batman doesn't have special powers. Why isn't there a real Batman?

All it takes is someone rich who wants to actually help people, and knows martial arts or fighting techniques. There are also some really cool gadgets that do exist, not to mention transportation like the Batmobile seen in the latest movies. The only devise that doesn't exist in a compact form is the automatic grappling hook that propels you upwards. But i'm certain lots of other things exist.

So, why hasn't someone donned a mask and started saving lives yet?

Jail? Someone like you described above would be caught after their first night.

Bruce Wayne would've been caught pretty friggin' fast. Batmobile's "stealth mode" and all. "He turned the lights off! Where is he? Aww, damn it, we lost him."

Didn't ANYBODY read WATCHMEN? that's why we don't have any REAL one's! besides, who want's to stare at a floating blue-glowing guys unmentionable?

^Ya, I geuss he would be VERY populer with the ladies (maybe certain dudes?) especially if it ''VIBRATES"

And as I brought up on another thread, Has anyone here read Mark Millers insanly great comic-series ''KICK-ASS" it really KICKS ASS!

We do have superheroes. They may not wear masks unless changing diapers but Moms and Dads are superheroes. Especially the stay-at-home ones.

You're just saying that because you don't know what I do in my spare time!!
Wait... did I give myself away? Arghhhh!! :klingon:

Superheroes were invented for the comics. There's no way they would work in real life. All that prancing around in public in those ridiculous costumes, they'd be laughed off the street in ten seconds.

Besides, we already have real heroes. Police, fire department, EMTs, the military, etc. We don't need some costumed wannabes.

Because the unpowered heroes of comics are even less realistic than the superpowered ones? In real life Batman would have been dead or jailed before the end of his first week.

I thought on similarish lines - more a British sit com No Heroics. They all have powers... but none of them very good or useful in any way. If there were real superheroes, that show is how I'd imagine them.

Because all rich folk are nothing but lazy self centred selfish greedy asshats. If I was a millionaire you'd get your superhero.

Because all the masks, money, good will and fighting ability in the world is not going to stop somebody shooting you in the face.
