Why Are Trekkies Against 3D?

3d simply gives me a headache, that's why I don't like it..

Gave me a headache in the early 80s (Spacehunter and Jaws 3D)..gives me one now...

Me too, I still endure it if I REALLY want to see the film. It hurts my eyes too.

As for "it doesn't add anything to the story"... The only movies I know where color actually is an element of the plot are Pleasentville and Schindler's List. For all other movies, it's just a pointless gimmick.

That's just ignorant. Color is used in every movie to set a tone or a mood in damn near every scene. I guarantee any good director is paying attention to color in any given scene.

Just because something is new, doesn't mean that it's better. I am seeing a recurrent them here that those who dislike 3D movies are old codgers who hate it just because it's new and need to get with the times. That's awfully dismissive and simplistic. The majority of people I've seen dislike 3D do so because they don't feel it adds anything to the film and, in fact, often has the effect of taking them out of the story because it seems rather "gimmicky" and "in your face." Agree or disagree, those reasons are more substantive than simply being opposed to something because it's different.

Or maybe some of us old codgers have seen fads come and go over the decades, and are basing our cynicism on lots of past experience.

In Sensurround!™

Yeah, but it's my opinion that since Dances with Smurfs, 3D has been used to cloak the suckage of films. People think they are great in the cinema when CG has whizzed past them, then six months later, they get the 2D experience on disc, and the excitement deflates like a moist fart.

This is exactly what happened to me! I watched Dances with Smurfs at the cinema and thought it was awesome. Then, I watched Trey and Matt's much more original take and wasn't so sure anymore.

Then, I watched it on dvd...and boy, is it lame.

3D doesn't do anything for me at all. And it's expensive. That's enough reason for me not to like it too much.

Why do people keep acting like 3D is some new technology? It has been around for 60 years and every time it has been popular people have claimed it to be the future of movies but then the market becomes full of movies looking to capitalise and people get bored with it again and it goes away for another 15 years.

^ The way its being used currently is gimmicky for sure, I wont deny that. Unfortunately, love it or hate it, none of us can see what's going to pan out so we are going to have to wait and see. Personally I hope the glasses disappear, it stops giving some people headaches and it paves the way for holographic technology.
