WHY are people posting on Thanksgiving Day?

At least, the Americans?

My reason is that Hubby’s family is celebrating tomorrow night, because one important member of the family is with his father today.

So we’re still going over to my in-laws’ house tonight--for MEATLOAF!! Made by Hubby. Tomorrow night is turkey.

I'm hundreds of miles away from all my family members, so I'm just staying at home today. I was productive, at least. I'm going to see some people on Saturday and Sunday, though.

I don't feel particularly close to anyone in my extended family, beyond my grandparents at least, so I don't bother attending any family gatherings if I can help it. In the past, I always volunteered to work on holidays (I was a pharmacy technician for a chain retail pharmacy) specifically for that reason, but I've been unemployed since July so this year I simply ignored the get-together rather than begging off due to work commitments.

Because not everyone is American. I'm Canadian, and we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October to coincide with the end of the crop season and the start of the colder weather.

I live close to most of my family and go over early in the day to help set up for dinner. We eat early, hang out, doze a bit, exchange phone calls with out-of-town kin, generally have a good time...and I'm home early in the evening, working on various projects and posting on the goddamned Internet. :-)

Unfortunately I have work tomorrow, so while I did visit family earlier in the day, I had to leave around 4.

I'm taking a break; mom and dad have gone to bed, mother in law is reading in her room and hubby is on his laptop.

A little peace and quiet is nice right now.

Most of my family lives within 50 miles. We already got together for Thanksgiving this morning and afternoon and I just got back home a little while ago.

We only ended up spending just a few hours with the family. We're all home now. Good food though. And even though it was for only a short amount of time, it was ... fun. Oh my.

Just my immediate family gets together (patents, myself, brother and his wife, my niece and then my buddy came over a second dinner.) So most of my day was spent on the net and watching the Mythbusters marathon on Discovery today. Helped get the turkey started then when it was done I helped make other side dishes (mashed potatoes) and carve the bird.

But most of the day was just "down time" watching the tellie.

:)

Because I can. :p

We had the meal and all. But you don't spend 24/7 preparing for it (although it can seem like it.)

This year, I had the meal and my brother joined the husband and I. It's the smallest Thanksgiving Day crowd I ever had but it was nice and I ate way too much.

My brother didn't arrive 'til mid-afternoon, so I had time to play online. Of course I had to come and harass ya'll.

Had we gone out for the day, I wouldn't have been posting 'til the evening as obviously I don't go online if I'm at someone's house. :p
