Why are comedy shows throwing such soft punches at Trump?

Last couple Saturday Night Live episodes have featured Darrell Hammond's Drumpf parody. Only, it comes off more as an Apprentice era Drumpf parody. This is a man who's suggesting banning people from the country based on religion, ramping up torture programs, and the hardest punch they throw at Trump is to have him call Jeb Bush a girl.

I know Stephen Colbert is on a network now, but two years ago today he would have been roasting Drumpf mercilessly. Now he's practically shilling for him, letting him call in and campaign whenever he wants.

Why are the same comedians who spent the last fifteen years roasting all the republicans for saying and doing less disgusting things than Drumpf suddenly unwilling to do more than mimicking his mannerisms and making 'Orange' jokes? Are they somehow afraid of his media presence or has there been money exchanging hands forbidding them from giving him the same treatment they gave Bush, Cheney, and Palin?

I want to see Darrell Hammond on that SNL stage describing all the torture techniques he has planned, describing the Muslim Detector he'll build for use at airports. Give him the same treatment they spent eight years giving the entire Bush administration.

News networks, comedy shows, it's like the entire entertainment world is afraid of him.

I love his descriptions of Trump.

For now, Trump is good for ratings. He's been a friendly guest on all the (popular with Democrat voters) news and entertainment shows for years, telling them all what he thinks they want to hear.

Make no mistake, they're not going easy on Trump because they like the guy. They're waiting for the nomination so they can unload everything they have on him. And you can bet real money that there's a ton.

IMO, YMMV. ;)

Is Trump not beyond parody?

Actually maybe I should delete this post....when he wins he might track me down and I dunno, maybe build a wall around my house or something.

If you go back 2 or three generations the Drumpfs changed their name to Trump and then had a baby called Donald. This reveal was part of the 10 minute ass ripping in tonights This week's tonight with John Oliver.

Here's the video to it.. John Oliver sure has become a spiritual successor to Jon Stewart who is missed dearly nowadays (i don't think he would have changed his mind knowing what the Primaries would be like but one can dream).

It's also a shame that Colbert is now leashed so to speak, part of being a member of a smaller cable company was the advantage of being able to be more edgy and sharp and i miss also the Colbert Report.

I just so wish people would see this John Oliver video but even then they might not change their mind because they refuse to accept the facts about Drumpf and would rather live in denial.

We all have that friend that posts John Oliver to their face book three times a week.

It'll get around, but then most of what was said was almost common knowledge or foreseeable.

MSNBC regularly does pieces on Trump, with comedic commentary on carefully engineered misquotes, freeze frames of funny faces, and such.

MSNBC is a comedy show ... right?

Yeah, I'm sure SNL will get right on a sketch with a Trump impersonator describing torture techniques. That would be awesome for ratings.

Samantha Bee is tearing them ALL down on her show on TBS.

As much as I enjoy Trevor Noah's charm, Comedy Central really did drop the ball on not even offering the show to Bee. Three episodes into Full Frontal (that I have seen) and she is razor sharp, utterly bonkers, taking large chunks out of the gaggle of douchebags currently running for Pres, and still offering up thoughtful segments on refugee immigration.

CC in the end played VERY safe offering the show to Noah, who only now is starting to find his own style. Yet he still comes across as somewhat toothless, though there is a ray of hope - his interview with Michael Hayden (ex CIA boss) was the first time he actually started asking difficult questions instead of backslapping every guest that came on.

Bee is the queen now though. I previously found her material to be amusing, at best, on TDS, but she and her writing team on Full Frontal are brilliantly funny and insightful, but with an acerbic edge that only John Oliver currently has.

Give her a go
