Why all the death in Season 7?

Considering the massive war I'm surprised there wasn't many more deaths among the main cast. Bringing in Ezri was a big mistake in my view, I thought she was a woeful character.

And don't forget, the Federation and her allies were certainly not winning,

Actually When you think about it they probably were winning. I mean until the Breen showed up the Feds and their allies had a foothold in Dominion help territory, and the Breen advantage only lasted a few episodes, before the Feds and their allies were able to launch a fullscale invasion of Dominion territory

Lots of spammer deaths in this thread. :rommie:

I seriously expected a main-cast character to die in the finale. Sisko didn't really die. I thought Odo or Bashir might be the one to bite it. Kira was a possibility. Garak wasn't technically main-cast, but his death would have had impact like he was.

Good point! It's almost as though they were setting up the show to keep running, what with all the characters they kept around! I could have lived with:

Kira: She was a terrorist, after all, but I was glad she got to take over the station!
Worf: Somebody kill this guy already! Still, the features would never allow it. Snooore.
Dax: YESSSSS. This actually rings really well for me. Weyoun should have killed her about six episodes before the end, that would have really upped the ante. Then he could have made his next clone be 'compatible' with Trill worms and taken Dax into himself to get all the enemy info! And then Dax would have started taking him over!

I couldn't have lived with:

Odo: His ending was perfect, and necessary.
Bashir or O'Brien: This would have really upset me.
Quark: He needed to be there at the end. As R2-D2 is to Star Wars, Quark is to DS9.
Martok: Who's gonna drink all the bloodwine?
Solbor: This guy was the best, I'm so glad they didn't kill him off, what a dude! "Don't you recognize your old enemy? It's Gul Dukat!" Hilarious! They should do a spinoff show about this fellow and his awesome hat. SO glad they didn't kill him off.

Oh yeah, Dukat and Winn, good point. Well, it WAS the finale, and they did deserve to die.
No they didn't. They were both complex and well fleshed-out characters that fell victim to the season 7 godding of Shitsko. Suddenly all the good work was trampled on and it was all made black and white.

I would have been impressed if Jake or O'Brien or Bashir died. I would have expected Nog to get killed instead of just losing his leg. They took a pretty mild approach given the severity of the war.

One "death" I was kind of like "really, seriously?" was the Defiant. I mean that was pretty pointless. Not only do they replace it with another Defiant class Defiant-A with the only difference being the bridge interior having some minor and barely noticeable changes, they didn't even bother to change the registry number in some shots. They could have just as easily just disabled the Defiant and had it repaired. But if the Defiant was to be destroyed, they should have introduced a new starship class as Defiant-A

The point of destroying the Defiant was to up the stakes of the Breen entering the war. From that standpoint I'd say it was successful.

As far as changing the registry...it's a TV show with a TV show's budget, I'm not going to quibble over relatively minor FX if the money went to better use elsewhere.

It might have had more of an impact if Starfleet had been unable to replace the Defiant at all.

They should have used another stock ship to bring home the loss. Ideally it would have been Riker or someone else from TNG getting some career advancement.

...because bringing TNG characters into the end of a series always went over so well the other times it was done?

I liked all the death towards the end of DS9, you always know when a series/book is coming to an end when the characters start dropping like flies. Take Harry Potter 7 for instance, all that death was to shock the reader, well I don't think it was the same for DS9. But who did die? Weyoun 7 and 8, Winn, Damar, Gowron, that's about it for recurring secondary characters.

Besides with Weyoun was it really the end for him? The Dominion must have a record of his DNA, and they still have cloning facilities in the Gamma Quadrant, so once they realized Weyoun 8 was dead, well then let's bring in Weyoun 9! With that in mind I don't see how it is the end of the Weyoun line...
