Who's Your Favorite Actor, and Why?

They can be from "Star Trek", or anywhere else, but I'm curious to know who you really like from Hollywood in general.

Tiffani Thiessen (left, seen with daughter Harper Renn Smith) was my one of my first childhood crushes. I adored her like crazy, as the lovable "Kelly Kapowski" on the popular teen sitcom "Saved by the Bell". The original series lasted for 4 seasons, followed by a short-lived "The College Years" spinoff and 2 telefilms, finally ending in 1994. Tiffani went on to star in many different projects over the years, including "Beverly Hills 90210", "Fastlane", "White Collar", "Alexa & Katie", and hosted the Cooking Channel series "Dinner at Tiffani's". In 2020, she returned in a recurring capacity for the "Saved by the Bell" revival, but it was sadly short-lived.

I admired her as a child, and now, I must confess she continues to look very good for a woman of 50 (and that's not meant in a perverted way). If I ever get the chance to meet her, I'll definitely ask her to sign something from my favorite childhood show. Hey, there's no shame in hoping - she gave Justin Bieber a "Kelly Kapowski" T-shirt!

For versatility and likability on and off camera, Steve Buscemi. Living In Oblivion is one of my favourites.

For me, even a "bad" Clint Eastwood movie is usually worth watching.

There are too many to name. Into the bargain, there are some actors who I find amazingly talented and versatile such as Daniel Day-Lewis but others perhaps not as chameleon-like, who I find just as watchable due to their charisma or screen presence, such as Tom Cruise or Sean Connery.

If I had to pick an all time movie star great, I’d say Paul Newman, for talent, watchability, presence and movie-star wattage. Of the current crop of stars, I think Denzel Washington always elevates anything he’s in, be it an art house movie or something big and dumb like The Equaliser.

Favorite all-time actor: Roddy McDowall, perhaps because I grew up watching him in the mid-'70s, and I usually appreciated his intellect. Genevieve Bujold's my all-time favorite actress based on OBSESSION alone. And I continue to be obsessed. I stopped thinking about AIRPORT's Jaqueline Bisset after I saw Bujold.

Favorite all-time American actor ever: Roy Scheider because of his personalities in MARATHON MAN, JAWS, and over time, ALL THAT JAZZ. Favorite all-time American actress is probably Susan Sarandon for WITCHES OF EASTWICK and LORENZO'S OIL. (And my favorite living character actors from the USA are still Veronica Cartwright and Lance Henriksen for about a dozen films each. Claude Rains might arguably be the best character actor of all time.)

My favorite relatively ''current'' British actors used to be Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. But now it's definitely Clive Owen for CLOSER, INSIDE MAN and SIN CITY and Thomasin McKenzie for everything. She's the Christina Ricci of the 2020s.

So my reasons are largely for the right roles at the best times.

Favorite all-time actor: Roddy McDowall, perhaps because I grew up watching him in the mid-'70s, and I usually appreciated his intellect.

I only saw Mr. McDowall in the original "Planet of the Apes", and a guest spot on "Quantum Leap". As such, I can't really call myself a devoted fan.

Genevieve Bujold's my all-time favorite actress based on OBSESSION alone. And I continue to be obsessed.

I've never seen that, but I remember that she was the first actress cast for Captain Janeway, even asking the character's first name be "Nicole". But just 2 days into the pilot, she left, and Kate Mulgrew took over.

I liked Mr. Scheider in "SeaQuest DSV", but I only saw "Jaws" once, and to be honest I wasn't very impressed. Mrs. Sarandon was good in "Stepmom", and I saw "The Client" once, but I don't remember much about it. I know she was popular early on for "Thelma & Louise", but that's another one I never saw.

I've lost count of how many films Mrs. Carter has done, but I mainly associate her with the "Harry Potter" films. The same is mostly true for Mr. Rickman, though I also liked him in the first "Die Hard", and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves". I can't say I've ever seen any of Mr. Owen's work, though.

And my favorite living character actors from the USA are still Veronica Cartwright and Lance Henriksen for about a dozen films each.

In my previous post, I forgot to address these two. I mainly remember Mrs. Cartwright as Joey Cramer's mother "Helen Freeman", in the 1986 Disney classic "Flight of the Navigator". As for Mr. Henriksen, my primary memories of him are from "The Terminator", "Tombstone", and the "Alien" films (even though I've only seen a few of them). He also had a minor role as the unnamed King of Dinohattan, in the much-panned 1993 version of "Super Mario Bros."

I believe Lance played the assassin in COMA before he suffocated under all those hospital corpses....

Nobody outfights the Shat like Morgan Woodward in OMEGA GLORY. And he enjoys it, too.
