who will live/die/return and when? (spoilers thru S4)

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Which characters must survive to the series finale?

Of the characters who die along the way, when in S5 or S6 do you estimate this happening? Circumstances?

Which "dead" or out-of-the-story characters will return and under what circumstances?

My answers:

Must Live to Series Finale:

Jack, Kate, Ben

Dies in Series Finale:

Ben - defies Island by returning, Smokey whomps him.

Sawyer - he definitely won't make it out of this show alive, but I'm hoping he's in it till the end. Same reason as Michael: he killed an innocent (the guy in the bar) and that spells death in TV land. (Kate should die for the same reason but the rules are different for girls, fair or not.)

Dies at Other Times:

Desmond - defending Penny against Ben during S6; Des dies and in doing so, mitigates Ben's vengeance so Penny is safe. Possibly Des can use his time-travel to undo Alex's death but dies from brain hemmorhage as a result. Start stocking up on the Kleenix now.

Sayid - it's a toss-up but I could see him having a big, bad-ass death late in S6 or the series finale.

Miles - no idea how or why, but he talks to dead people and that means he must die.

Will Survive Series Finale:

Hurley, Claire, Bernard, Rose, Danny, Charlotte, and of course Vincent. Pets are always safe.

Characters Who Return from the Dead:

Claire - Never was dead, revealed early S5.

Jin - S5 finale. I dunno where he'll be hiding, maybe at the Looking Glass station.

Alex - In the episode where Desmond dies, S6.

Locke - Resurrected in the series finale (but he'll be in the Island-Past episodes up till then anyway, so he certainly won't be out of the picture, ever). He and Smokey live happily ever after, the end.

I want Jack and Kate to die, but I know it won't happen.

I pretty much agree with all your points. Desmond will have a tragic, but heroic death, while Sayid will go out in blaze of glory.

If the producers really want to shock us, they'll kill Hurley (at any point, series finale or not).
