Who Will Be A Black Lantern?

Mr Light

Admiral
Admiral
This coming fall in the DC comics universe, THE DEAD WILL RISE! A newly empowered Black Hand will apparently be creating THE BLACK LANTERNS with the aid of the Anti-Monitor's unwilling body. As I understand it recently deceased DCU heroes and villains will be made into zombie warriors. I'm assuming they don't have free will so that the dead heroes will fight the GLC?

So which DCU characters who died recently will be Black Lanterns? Or at the least, which DCU characters have died recently? I'm not that up on them.

I'm wondering if this will be limited to Earth, so if someone died on another planet they wouldn't count (like Mallah on Salvation planet).

--Martian Manhunter
--Superboy/Conner (though with the legal troubles over the name can they even use him? Or will they just call him Conner?)
--The Question
--Osiris the Annoying from 52 :p
--Isis, Black Adam's wife
--Ralph Dibney
--Sue Dibney
--Karate Kid
--Jonathan Kent, LOL
--All of the New Gods, or they already count as resurrected in Final Crisis? Still don't they have bodies smoldering in the ground? Could Darkseid's old body be the invincible leader of the Black Lantern Zombie Army?

John Stewart.

Is this serious? I haven't read comics in a little while, this sounds pretty awful, I guess Marvel Zombies was a big hit.

It's the finale of the Green Lantern meta-story "The War of Light". The Black Lanterns will be the final evil that all the other Corps must unite against to fight. And they're supposed to be reanimated corpses.

As far as I'm aware John Stewart isn't dead.

EDIT: Wow. Totally took me five minutes to get that.

Ugh...not only did they kill my favorite character Martian Manhunter, but they are going to make him an evil walking dead?

How about an additional gatefold of all the major heroes, villains, DC writers and artists urinating on his grave at the same time?

I don't know if MM is going to be a Black Lantern but it would certainly seem like an A list choice for them to use.

Well you summed up your answer right there.

You know very little about what is going on with the Green Lantern Corp, so --

The Black Lantern tie in has been hinted at for apparently a long time, who knows how long, but so far the Green Lantern Corp has been amazingly awesome.

Yeah, the middle act of this long-term saga, the Sinestro Corps War, is what got me back into comics after dropping them five years earlier. Great stuff!

Stewart was the first thing I thought of, though I am aware of what is happening. I just wanted to be a smart-arse.

I'm thinking that Kal-L (Superman from Earth-2) will be a Black Lantern, based on one panel from the last page of Justice Society of America #1. In that panel a blue sleeved arm punches out the ground at Kal-L's grave while a stunned Power Girl watches.

That was a dream she had - we saw the full scene a couple of issues later.

I like the multiple rings bollocks like with that plant in green lantern corps last month. Katma Tui would get tapped by a star sapphire in about 5 seconds after black power battery brought her back.

Is Hal Jordan's soul still in heaven where Ollie met him in Quiver?

By the way this could only be about Ch'p.

They killed Martian Manhunter? Fuck, I'm glad i quit reading DC a long time ago.

Funny thing is that it was handled so glibly by Grant Morrison that some people here didn't notice even after reading the book when I opened a discussion about it at the time.

^^
That was me!!! I didn't realize he was dead until I read the thread here. I didn't think a mere skewering would be enough to kill old MM. Not to mention the off-handed way it happens with zero build-up.

Boy I really did not like Final Crisis in the end :p

pretty sure Jordan's been fully back as a human for awhile now, both body and soul.

the Dibney's were brought back as ghost detectives, who hop from body to body like Deadman and it seems to be working well (although it still makes me sad), and it'd be indescribably lame if they were dragged back as Black Lanterns.

there's been some talk of bringing back Impulse or Superboy (or both), although I doubt it'd happen in the Green Lantern title. maybe Martian Manhunter.

I think, overall, the spectrum of rings seems to be working and is one of those few retcons that I enjoy.

Flesh running about without a soul is called a hallow. Hollow?

I'm three feet away from my mylar protected copy of Green Latern Redemption, so I really shouldn't bother you people, just fins out if the Soul driving the Spectre exited and then integrated with the recovered flesh of Jordan, because it probably did.

From months back, I haven't read the recent mention of th black lantern(s) when the Black power battery showed up, i got the impression that there was only going to be one Black lanter who was going to be the antithisis of all the spectrum of lanterns which isn't quite right when it is Black which is the intergration of all colours.

Black is the absence of color not the integration of all colors.

The end of The Sinestro War teased that the dead would be returning to life. Rather that means as members of a Black Lantern Corps(e) or as simply tools of a single Black Lantern remains to be seen.

Jordan's soul was never in Heaven - it visited there with the Ollie clone and left with him.
