You know who I'm talking about. The security officer on DS9 who was always there but never said a word. In Way of the Warrior he escorted Dukat to the bridge of the Defiant and then he's back on DS9 in the very next scene, before the Defiant is even back at the station.
Bingo! Thanks. And on a side note, he would easily be one of the most experienced officers in all of Starfleet.
There's another guy that Jones is always with. Kind of a thin, nerdy guy with reddish hair. I searched Memory Alpha for him but came up with bubkes. If anybody knows who it is, it would really make my day.
Oh no! After a career that lasted at least 7 years and two shows, Jones got hurt in his very last appearance. I certainly hope he's okay. Security guards + longevity usually don't go hand in hand.
Jones, DS9's equivalant of Mr Leslie and NuBSG's "Oriental Viper Pilot", just an added part of the fixtures that represents more continuity. There was another guy, haven't a clue who, but he had a few appearances as an extra in TNG, but is most recognisable as the engineer who helped keep Kirk back in engineering at Spock's death scene in TWOK.
There was also a wide-shouldered black security guard that wasn't too far behind this guy in number of appearances.
Very often these regularly-seen no-line extras are also the main actors' stand-ins/photo doubles. The wide-shouldered African American guy was probably Michael Dorn's. I was going to guess that Jones was Colm meaney's stand-in, and I was right. Memory Alpha says, "Lieutenant Jones was played by regular extra and Colm Meaney stand-in Randy James, who received for almost all of his appearances no on-screen credit. Jones was often seen in the background, usually standing guard or enjoying a drink at Quark's. He was called Jones in at least two episodes, "The Nagus" and "Time's Orphan". In the script for the first episode he is called 'Jonas', in the second 'Thompson'. In the final dialog of both episodes however he is called 'Jones'."
I have sure noticed this guy... it's one of those extras on ds9 that never gets to say a word, otherwise they would have to pay him for a talking part. This is most obvious in... I think it's "The Muse", when Lwaxana visits Odo at his security office. She's talking to the guy and all he does is nod in a stupid way, it's really obvious that he can't talk because otherwise they would have to pay him more. It looks quite ridiculous. Anyone else notice this?
I don't recall the scene but it certainly doesn't surprise me. I just sort of chuckle to myself when I see him. Think about it. Here's a guy who's participated in events on the station both major and minor. He's a part of security on both the station and the Defiant. You've seen him interact with probably every member of the senior staff. He has the rank of Lt. But he never says a word. If they had ever done an episode like Lower Decks he should have been the star character. Someone should write a book or something.
I know who he's referring to. That guy is huge. He also appears to be a member of security. He was there long before Worf, unless he was his stand in on TNG. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a no name, non speaking Jem'Hadar in an episode or two. He's there during the "volunteer" speech Sisko gave in ops, in The Siege. Anyway, the fact that I can clearly recall extras and what episodes they were in, means I've watched DS9 a few times too many. That's why I ordered B5.
