Accordin' to the DS9 Relaunch, Nog took over for Odo very briefly, and then moved on to Chief O'Brien's job. And the Bajoran Militia assigned Lieutenant Ro Laren to be DS9's security chief.

In the novels, Ro led a group of anti-Dominion Maquis through the war, and then came back to Bajor afterward. She got a commission with the militia, they sent her to DS9 while Captain Picard argued in her favor to Starfleet to keep her from bein' brought up on charges.

idk, ro always seemed like this character that was vaguely around but not one you actually cared about like, say kira

Kira had a full seven seasons to be developed, while Ro had a half dozen episodes.

Eight actually, after checking Memory Alpha. Which is surprising to me, since I've always thought of her as a much more frequently recurring character than that. Guess Ro made quite the impression.
