Who out there is in the sciences?

I've been perusing the forums alot lately(Winter vacation -woo!), and noticed alot of people who are well-versed in scientific matters(or atleast are good at looking like they know what they're talking about ;)).

Are some of you engineers, doctors, astronomers, anything like that?

I'm a senior in high school and plan to be an engineer(and history teacher... we'll see how that works out), and I think it's cool to have stumbled upon a forum full of people who can discuss how the sun being a red giant could impact our solar system, or what trajectory a moon with an elliptical orbit would take...

So, yea.

physics is great!

I majored in Astrophysics my first time through college, but I dropped out for lack of funds and because I was an unmotivated kid. I've since become a journalist and science historian.

Math and physics are lots of fun. Keep it up if for no other reason :)

I'm a chemistry professor at a university, and it was Star Trek that influenced me on both counts (science and education).

Go science and engineering!

I'm am a super genius genetically engineered from DNA obtained from the greatest minds in Human history including Einstein. I was created in a lab and then had advanced super technology including a supercomputer inserted and hooked up to my brain to enhance my already natural genius.

I have a B.S. in physics and a Ph.D. in geophysics. I read this forum often, but don't post much as most of the topics are astronomy and astrophysics, and I'm more focused on the internal dynamics of planets.

I have a chemistry degree, and teach general science and chemistry to secondary (11-18) age pupils in the UK.

Dont post much, there are usually people who know more than me contributing to the threads, so I just read!! Unless something sarcastic pops into my head, but I usually try to avoid posting sarcasm!!

I have a Master's degree in astronomy and I'm working on my PhD in astrophysics, thesis on observational cosmology. Loads of work, lots of stress, long hours, little money, no respect... why I'm doing this, again? :shifty:

I'm more of a lurker in this forum who posts occasionally. I have a B.S. in physics and I'm currently working on a M.S. in physics with a focus on solid state physics.

I have a PhD in paleontology and I'm a geology professor. I don't post much, largely because being a professor is a 24/7 job, but also because most of the threads here are technical or relate to the space program/astronomy (both subjects I'm not as familiar with). But I enjoy reading those threads, when I have the time.

I just finished a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I wondered the same thing many times along the way (and still do). I don't have a good answer.

We have a piece of paper posted on the door of our lab that says "I became a scientist for clear answers and understanding. That's kind of like becoming a priest to meet girls."

I always like your posts. Paleontology is awesome. :)

I have a BS and MS in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering. I am currently working on a PhD in the same field. My specialty is in controls engineering which has ironically shifted my focus away from aerospace engineering to applied mathematics which can be used in a variety of fields. Some day I may end up in doing cost/economical optimizations for consulting and financial firms rather than living my childhood dream of working for JPL. Though the latter is still a possibility.

I really hope you're all joking because if not then that makes me an idiot.

Remember that discussion we had last week about not knowing when you're being serious or sarcastic when you make random scientific proclamations?

I've got my BSc and MSc in Electrical Eng. with a focus on process control systems. Sorry Tachy. ;)
