Who are STAR TREK's biggest Herberts?

Aquehonga

Fleet Captain
Don't restrict yourself simply to characters by any means dudes:hugegrin:

ST's Herberts can also be species, organizations, interstellar empires/alliances, crews, even ships, space stations, planets, etc.

The sky is like totally the limit in this category:D

Enjoy total ownage with this topic & pwn away:bolian:

For starters the Founders are a species of Herberts. It doesn't say much for your species when the life of the party is Odo:wtf:

Forget that drip mudstick Laas. He should change his name to Louse.

And as for DS9's Femme-Odo? Man she's the stiffest most joyless no-personality twit ever. Dr:borg:nes are hip happening-now in a far out way party people compared to her.

Forget her warcrimes dudes. The Trekverse's PTB should've tried & sentenced her to life just for her being a professional stick in the mud.

The changeling fellow Odo bumped off had a tad nano-hint of some personality, but was still a total lifeless noob. He still made Odo's “personality” seem like Trelane's.

What other Herberts are there?
Kes, Commodore Stocker, the Runabouts, Ambassador Fox, Regula 1 Station, Captain Harriman, Yelgrin, the Jem'Hadar, Eddington, Ferenginar, UFP Prez {all ones depicted thus far}, ,........, .........., ?

Your turn(s) dudes>

I'm thinking that herberts are bureaucratic types or something, now that Ithink more about that episode...so I change my answer to Vulcans.

Star Trek's biggest Herberts would have to be any of the cast or crew in any of the series, or anyone else involved in professionally producing Star Trek material, who have seen Trek as "just a job" and failed to recognise it as something truly special.

Known Herberts: Frakes, Braga, Berman.

Definite Non-Herberts: Tim Russ, Jolene Blalock, John Larroquette, Christian Slater, and the guy in my avatar. :D

I'm willing to give the rest a pass. Some, especially TOS cast, have been big, big Herberts in the past, but seem to have gotten their groove back since then.

If we're just talking about "in series" Herberts, I'ma throw my votes out for the Tholians and the Sheliak. They really harshed my mellow, man.

I want to say that Captain Styles was a Herbert, but he was just so straight-pimpin', I can't quite dis him like that.

Who's definition of "Herbert" are we using? By definition of those latter-day hippies in "The Way to Eden" who made up the term, Chakotay would probably be considered sorta cool, just as Spock was. They considered Kirk a perfect Herbert, if you recall, but I expect they would have found Picard even...Herbertier (?) But probably their ultimate Herbert would be Worf.

Not that I intend any insult to Chakotay, Spock, Kirk, Picard or Worf, because I love 'em all. They would probably consider me a Herbert, too (she says, as she sits in her nice little office wearing her tailored suit). And I'm OK with that.

Wait, wait, wait just a Spumoni Gardens minute here...

You claim Frakes *as* a Herbert and Blalock as a non-Herbert? I think you should switch the two. Frakes has never seemed like he treated Trek as just a job. He always enjoyed the hell out of it, and he's still pushing for *more* TNG. That sound like a Herbert to you?

Blalock, though... I'd be more inclined to think *her* a Herbert. When has she ever shown enthusiasm for Trek? I know she's a professional and will take the roles she's given, but somehow I doubt she enjoyed playing T'Pol quite as much as Frakes did Riker.

Well yeah, frakes was the space pimp of the series. He got laid every other episode, Blalock had to wait till what? late season 3 before her fling with trip? Its no wonder she wouldn't have enjoyed it.

She showed true concern about the series and her character a number of times. For example, she was quite pissed off at TaTV. If she didn't have enthusiasm for Trek (or at least ENT) she would not have been so vocal in her disgust of that episode.

Out of respect, I think we should keep real people out of this.

Personally, I think a few good candidates for "herberthood" are the following:

Ambassador Fox from TOS: A Taste of Armageddon
Commissioner Ferris from TOS: The Galileo Seven
Commodore Stocker from TOS: The Deadly Years
Vice Admiral Haftel from TNG: The Offspring
Admiral Nechayev from TNG

But there are so many more....

That alien in charge of the supply depot in 'Unification'. He had his protocol playbook lodged so far up his anus that his colon could turn the pages.

"Mr. Spock... what does 'Herbert' mean?"

"It is somewhat... uncomplimentary, captain. Herbert was a minor official -- notorious for his rigid and limited patterns of thought."
I would say:
Odo
Anan 7
Plasus
Janeway
Janice Lester
....

Yeah I was going to say the Zakdorn, same race as the one in "Peak Performance" whom Data "busted up".

The Devore - Herbert and loving it.
Kai Winn - Her Heinous Queen Herbert
Admiral Haftel (TNG "Offspring") - Fully-decorated Herbert
Wesley's blue mist-sucking friend - was protoge Herbert
Talur (benighted scientist who calls Data an "iceman") - Educated Herbert
Gosheven (Ensigns of Command) - Herbert with extreme prejudice

C'mon we all know who the biggest Herberts in Star Trek are, The United Federation of Planets, those guys have no fun at all!
