I thought that Star Trek is more of a television show, because you get to develop ideas with more outings, when with just a movie, you have to whiz bang every body in two or three hours!!! I, however, like the Abrams reboot movies better, but there were some good movies of the original universe, but they did disappoint me a little bit... :(

As much as I love the series', my favourite Treks have always been the big screen outings. The stakes are higher, the scope is larger. I'd always watch TNG waiting for the next TOS movie, DS9 and Voyager waiting for the next TNG movie.

Television for sure, but that may just be because there's more TV stories than movie stories. But with TV, you have much more time to expand on characters and each give them moments. That helps when you have Trek like ensembles. It also helps that my favorite of Trek is DS9 and that was only on TV. So with that in mind, I'm going to lead more toward television.

That's pretty much where I'm at too.

Both.

The movies and TV shows are two distinct animals and I have enjoyed both immensely.

Currently, I'd have to say movies though. Not sure how much enthusiasm I have for a new TV series.

While I love watching the movies, I'd much much rather give them up if I had to pick between the TV shows or films. A Trek fan who hasn't watched any of the TV shows is just as much a Trek fan as I'm a Klingon!

Phaser to my head I'd have to say TV, as there is more opportunity to develop characters, as well as spend more time with those ones that you love.

The TV shows, without doubt.

There have been some good movies, but their success rate overall is pretty abysmal. Like 5 or 6 good outings out of 12. If the tv shows had been less than 50% successful, the franchise wouldn't even exist.

I've enjoyed both and been disappointed by both...but if forced to choose I'll take the series' over the movies every day.

Easily the TV shows. They are the soul of Trek, where it can tell intelligent stories in small, 42 minute slices. I always felt the movies and Trek just don't merge well because they degrade Trek into mere violence and explosions which isn't really what it's about.

Absolutely the TV shows. Even the better of the movies have largely been "Big, Dumb Trek". (TMP being the major exception, but it swung a bit too far in the opposite direction.)

This.

Both Star Trek television series and films. Two very different styles:television is very much more a writer's medium with more hours/episodes to explore the characters and film a director's medium visual short two hour opportunities.

Agree. TMP was about exploration of V'ger, no big bad villain:shifty:.
Insurrection was just a film version of a NG episode. Not worthy to be a film, but just a NG television episode.

The movies were interesting in theory, i.e. I get to see Data with an emotion chip, but we already get cinematic thrills from the TV shows, and the movies can hit-and-miss but never hit the mark.

TV shows, definitely. They span a much longer period of time, and are more reserved and Trek-like.
I do love the movies, though, as it is cool to see a series transformed into a larger-budget outing with higher stakes.
