Which version of Stargate in Universe?

I just thought of something, I wonder which version of the Stargate the gate seeding ship will be seeding. I guess this all depends on if the Ancients sent the ship out from the time they lived in the Milky Way (with those style of gates and DHDs) or if they sent the ship out while in the Pegasus galaxy (using their new style of digital Gates and DHDs.)

I also wonder if they will get a boost in power to allow for intergalactic travel, or if they are just "local" stargates to that galaxy. I'm guessing the Ancients would have probably thought to equip them with the ability for intergalactic galaxy travel because they would have wanted to gate to that network as well if they had survived.

My money is on a new one, it will be green!

I'd be fine with it if they new gate was simply a door you walked through. No "kawoosh." Nothing. Just a door.

Hell, I'd even be fine with them walking behind a curtain to gate to a planet if it meant no more Canadian forests.

Hopefully, the only things that'll be different are the chevrons and the inner ring, as with Atlantis. I don't want to have to fiddle with my model too much.

^ I doubt they will. The Gate has that "iconic" look within the series. Changing it into, say, a square would be a too radical a departure.

My vote is for purple chevrons. Gateworld has been pushing the purple theme with their SGU coverage so far.

Make them a primitive version of the gate, kinda like Gate 1.0.

Make 'em glow like hot white or maybe a angry purple colour.

If the ship is newer use the atlantis gates with a purple tinge to them.

Along this same line of thought, which traveling effect will be used (the one used from the movie through season eight of SG1, or the one from Atlantis and season nine and ten of SG1). I guess it depends, again, upon when the ship was launched, and thus which firmware was used. ;)

Seeing as how SG-1 retconned the traveling effect with nary a word, I'm thinking that it'll use the new one...

I think that it would be nice if we got a new Stargate. Perhaps one that reflected a significant advance in the technology. I thought about a perfectly smoothe ring where the symbols are holographic projections. We know that the ancients made extensive use of holograms so its not much of a stretch.

How about something similar to what the Tollin used?

Milky Way gates have the luxury of manual dialling so the ring has the symbols on, by the look of the Pegasus gates, manual dialling cannot be done and the ring does not spin so the symbols are therefore instead just for show. The next logical evolution for stargates is to not bother having the symbols on at all. So a very thin symboless stargate seems the next logical step, could just have a few purple lights around the edges for when the gate is activated.

I thought someone might bright this up. However, the Milky Way gates did not start using this effect until Atlantis dialed home to Earth for the first time. I always assumed it was one of those correlative updates, upgrading the gates firmware from the earlier Milky Way version to the more recent Pegaus version. The question is - will the Universe gates and effects be the MW version or the P version?

SGU? I loved SG-1, but lost interest in SGA this year. So what is SGU?
Can some kind soul get me up to speed?
It's the new spinoff series, about which there are several related threads, such as this one: Link. If you do a simple search on "Universe" in this forum you should get most of them, or at least enough to give you an idea of what's going into this series.

I noticed in the show they didn't say anything about it, but I did also notice the timing of the change. The Milky Way Gate network starts with the new effect after Atlantis has dialed Earth.

Its possible that similar to the correlative update the Pegasus Gate upgraded the Milky Way Firmware. I know the Ancients dialed Earth any number of times before they abandoned Atlantis, but that was with a DHD on the other side.

The update may have "slipped past" and into the Milky Way network due to that damn Tau'ri dialing computer. At least thats my excuse for it.

As for the SGU Gates, the Destiny delivered the Milky Way Gates to this galaxy, then was sent towards another galaxy. So the Gate's would be more advanced than the 1.0 (Orange - MW) but less advanced than what is probably 3.0 (Blue - Peg).

Purple 2.0 somewhere between the two designs would just just fine. Maybe closer to the Pegasus design, but the inner ring does move around physically and illuminates the Chevron.

Well, if you want to get really, really technical about it, the show can't really mention it, because we're the only ones who see the wormhole tunnel anyways. The travelers have no way of knowing that the effect was upgraded. ;)

Yep. It's a television flourish. Didn't Carter say in "Ripple Effect" that transit time between gates was something like a third of a second (which contradicts the movie and early episodes, but the fact that they had that kind of detailed information about dematerialization and position within the wormhole always seemed stupid anyway, so I don't mind).

There are at least two episodes I can think of that show O'Neill walking through the puddle to the other side as if it were pretty much instantaneous so yup the traveler has no recollection of the journey because there more or less isn't one.

What we might be seeing is a "for the audience" slomo of the matter stream transit. A third of a second extended to about 15 seconds is it? But since they took the time to show the updated effect I think they're implying the Firmware was upgraded.

They could at least have Carter at the SGC mention in passing that they had to take a couple of hours to recalibrate their dial computer after Atlantis patched their Gate.
